Whilst partaking in a few after work drinks on Friday the subject of curry came up. I casually dropped in to conversation that I'd never actually tried a curry and from the look on some of my colleagues faces you'd think that I'd said "I like to molest little boys and then strangle them to death".

To make sure I'm not lynched anytime soon I have agreed to go out for a curry on the 16th. The only problem is, as a complete curry virgin I have no idea what to have. Can anyone recommend me something which:

a) Doesn't contain coconut;
b) Is vaguely healthy (ie not too creamy);
c) Doesn't look like a plate of baby sick.

Cheers!

Edit: In before "comedy" vindaloo answer.

Depends if you're after spicy or not. I'd recommend a Bhoona or a Dansak. The latter isn't very creamy at all, the second is rather creamy, but absolutely delicious. Made from lentils. Dansak can vary in spice from place to place, ask for it Madras or Vindaloo hot if you like spicey.

To be honest, you aren't going to find anything particularly healthy, let alone something that is neither creamy nor looks like baby sick.

Oh, for starter go for something like prawn or chicken chat on puree. Or maybe a Sheek Kebab. Get a side order, something like Sag Aloo (potato and spinach) or a nan (Kima for the win)

Ant :cool:

If you want something quite mild, go for a chicken korma. Personally, I think the best way to go is mix a load of sauces with rice and some naan bread. Yum!

Korma,
Rougon Josh
Jalfrezi
Madras
Tikka
etc

EDIT: Nearly forgot the Tikka!!

Do you normally like spicy food??

My mate doesn’t but still loves a chicken korma. I normaly go for chicken tikka jalfrezi but also enjoy lamb sagwala or chicken biryani

Biryani.

I'm not into curry at all but if I have to go then I'll have this. It's your choice of meat in the rice with all the spices etc. Not too hot but obviously has a bit of spice and flavour. Will be served with a separate vegetable curry so you can choose to add some of the muck if you so desire :)

p.s. I leave the muck where it is :p

great advice said:
Why is vinadaloo a comedy answer? ive you've never had curry how the hell do you know what it tastes like? i love vindaloo :D

Because it's far too spicy for a curry virgin from what I hear.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys :)

Chicken balti ( in a steel wok ) madras hot ( you have to ask for that )

Side order of fryed mushrooms ( Pop them on top of your balti )

2 kema nann's

1 pint of larger ( your choice )

you will not need rice and don't use a fork to eat ..scoop it up with the nann bread

Enjoy ...what ever you decide to have ;)

Bah, you just made me choose between a curry or fish and chips for dinner (both cooked myself). I'm still unsure what I want :p

The best curries I cook myself are jam packed with vegetables and on that note... :o! I want some taco's or fajitas. Aaah, I dunno what I want :p

Rofl @ the thread title

I usually go for something called 'Murgh Royal' from my local, is a chicken curry, in a mince lamb sauce. Proper tasty, I like my currys very meaty :D

Im quite into my currys (i have about one a week) but ive never been able to handle vindaloo, tried it a few times.

Ohh and most Indian restaurants do a “special” naan, the restaurant we normally go to does one that has whole pieces of chicken tikka, chilli’s, peppers, onion and is slightly cheesy. But that aint healthy at all lol
