Just installed a Sandisk Ultra II 240GB as my primary drive with OS.

However after running AS SSD it's clear that I am not getting full speeds from the drive.

AHCI is set in the bios.

My motherboard is Sata III 6Gbs capable.

Only thing which I can think of causing the issue is the Sata cable.

Any thoughts guys.

Cheers

what make is the motherboard?

have you checked that all ports are set to ACHI?

on my motherboard i have the option to set my sata 6 ports and sata 3 ports to ACHI and IDE

also try HD tune and see if you get the same speeds

Cheers for the advice guys, I was in the middle of posting you a link to my motherboard specs then I "actually" read the specs and realised my mobo only supports 3Gbs! All makes sense now. I must have got the specs mixed up with my old mobo which died.

I guess it's upgrade time :D.

Cheers for the help.

upgrade or stick with what you have.

mine are running on sata 2 ports and i can still notice a difference over a HDD for speed.

i have a x58 system and the marvel controller for the sata 3 ports is crap and cant reach the full speeds lol

ED209, I think I will do exactly that, will stick with what I have until I see a deal online or in the MM for a better Mobo, until then even at Sata 2 speeds the performance increase over my old HDD is huge.

Cheers:)

I noticed zero difference between sata 2 and sata 3 when using my ssds for OS and gaming. Long sequential reads and writes are very uncommon for most people.

I actually forgot I did it until someone asked for a benchmark when I remembered - months down the line.
