Half way point in the F1 season, thoughts so far?

Kimi should/could have won four or five races instead of just the one. Lotus seem to be very conservative with their strategy and Kimi needs to turn up on Saturday as well as Sunday. He also needs to clear slower cars quicker.

Very surprised at how good Mercedes have been. I was certainly one of those that thought Hamilton wouldn't get anywhere with them this season. Much to my annoyance he's done a decent job and so has Rosberg.

Sick of hearing about tyres. It's the same for everyone, so deal with it.

Vettel has been especially annoying so far. Crying last week that Kimi didn't give him any room had me shouting at the TV like a loon.

Sorry to see Webber go.

Why, in a 19/20 race season do we have a situation whereby there's only one race in seven weeks? Scheduling could do with a rethink.

I am loving Lotus sticking their nose in this year. I think Kimi being so cold interviews etc which used to be a novelty is kind of starting to grate on me. Its like he doesn't want to be there. Obviously he does but theirs being cold, then being Kimi :D

Very happy how well Lewis has settled into Merc and they have a great car so its doing well for him. Felt like he was heading down a dark route of his life from the pressure at mclaren. Refreshing to see his attitude change.

Sorry to see Webber go. Not going to moan about the tyres as its been covered although i will say i miss Jake on BBC. I just don't think Simon Lazenby comes across as well as Jake does. I think Ted should get top spot next year.

I think the most amazing thing about this season is just how good a decision it was that Lewis made moving from Mclaren to Mercedes! Jumped ship at just the right time!!

What if Jenson wins the Championship next year with one or two wins this year to let's say three or four Hamilton wins.

Will it be a good move then ? ;)

Let's not forget that Merc now have to commit more resources to this year's car than Mclaren (who are putting more resources into the 2014 car earlier than the other big teams)

I love you man. :D

Button will not even compete for a championship ever again.

I'd go with that. He's a good driver and seems like a top bloke, but as a racing driver I'd say he was in the second tier.

That might be harsh, but if you stuck him in the same team as a Schumacher, Hakkinen, Alonso, Raikkonen (excepting the 2008 and 2009 Kimi), Hamilton, Vettel and perhaps even Montoya, how many times would he come out on top over a season? Would that one time in 2011 be the only occasion?

I made an argument at the end of last season that this line-up for McLaren was probably the weakest for 30 years. Nothing I've seen so far this season suggests otherwise.

It's harsh to call him a second-tier driver, but I honestly believe that's what he is. His requirements from a car are too narrow.

Sky Sports' take on the inter team battles at the mid-season point.

Something I was thinking about earlier also was with the amount of Rookies we have on the grid this season, so far at least, there really hasn't been the amount of mistakes I would have expected (especially as you could argue some of them likely wouldn't be there on talent alone). So if for nothing else they can be commended for not ditching it every at opportunity :p

That is just because they are babying the tyres around though...

I also don't expect button to take a championship. He was lucky to get the first

Hamiltons move was either lucky or inspired by something he knew. Who knows.

I don't think it's a particularly exciting championship in regards to wdc, second place is the interesting bit.

Kimis place next yeah is going to settle a lot of questions relating to who drives where.

I doubt mclaren, lotus, or anyone else but RBR, ferrari and merc will win a wcc for a while, kind of depressing

McLaren's problem is that they are playing happy families. They dont want to step on anybody's toes or be involved in any scandal.

In F1, to be quick, you must be involved in dodgy/questionably antics, which lead to scandal. RBR were constantly in the headlines with their antics, over the last 3 years, with regards to the legality of their cars. This year, they have been a bit more quiet, though I expect this to change as the year progresses.

Mercedes were terrible in races. They took an illegal tyre test, took a big risk, got involved in scandal and hey presto, 3 races on, they have race-winning pace. Last year, the moment they were made aware that Hamilton was listening to offers, they made an offer. McLaren were not happy, but then Merc are not playing happy families.

My suspicion is that after McLaren received the US$100M fine (which was ridiculously high), they brought in a whole bunch of procedures to reduce the chances of a repeat of the incident. This means that if any employee/department wants to take a risk, they have to run it by 100 people before it gets a green light. If McLaren want, they can weigh in and offer to take on Kimi. Perhaps make him the highest paid driver in F1. But will they? Nope. With their resources, they shouldnt be settling for any driver line-up unless it includes Alonso, Vettel or Hamilton. Anyone else, is tier-2, which given the money available to McLaren, begs the question, why?

McLaren's only hope is for their design and engineering department to deliver a car which is at least 0.5s/lap faster than all other cars. This is unlikely. More likely is if they get rid of the current (risk averse) management and bring in some risk takers.

Couldn't agree less with all that!

Some nice mercedes figures :p

7 out of 10 pole positions so far this season.

Won 3 of the last 5 races (a shame vettel won the other two :p ).

Hamilton highest points scorer in last 3 races:

Hamilton 47
Kimi 46
Vettel 40

All looks great, until you look at the championship standings.

Is Britain the only race this year where a Mercedes has finished ahead of where it started?
