Well, at least I understand where your love of tyre life comes from—an era where tyres wouldn't be changed for races at a time. 
Coincidently I was at Mallory for the first time last weekend. Was there for the nippon/classic touring/MR2 racing with a guy driving a supercharged MR2 in nippon. Didn't go too well (for a multitude of reasons) but I really enjoyed it. It's a nice place - gorgeous surroundings, a lovely accessible track (which is a good walk) and some good, chatty locals. Enjoyed it immensely and hope do to it again next year.
