Halogen bulb ban

got a desk type lamp that takes g9 halogen bulbs but they are exempt from the ban, had a upligter that used a 150w bulb stopped using that years ago all other lights in the property are leds

No need for us following EU rubbish like this

Does Brexit affect the bulb ban?

Not really. These rules remain relevant as for long as the UK follows EU legislation. And, as with other bans such as the one on vacuum cleaners with high-wattage motors, manufacturers have indicated that they are unlikely to continue producing halogen bulbs specifically for the UK market after Brexit.

next up "nhs under strain with 50% increase in eye strain related injuries due to mass adoption of cheap led bulbs"

yes good led bulbs don't cause eye strain but realistically how many people are going to realise that and not buy the cheapest bulb in the shop.....

How is this even an issue for the consumer? This is just which using it to promote their services. Retailers can sell them as long as they are being produced. Manufacturers have to ensure the bulbs are not produced. If consumers are "in the dark" then it doesn't matter. If they need a certain type of bulb, they will find it. The added expense is insignificant to the other costs of running a home!

Not in the EU. Retailers won't be able to order any once stocks run out.

Same here. Did all the standard bulbs about 3 years ago followed by the GU10's in the kitchen and a couple of weeks ago finally found some led G9's that didn't strobe. The only non led light in the house now is the flourescent tube in the kitchen and that will be swapped out soon.

Previous owners re-wired my house in about 2006, so there are GU10 fittings *everywhere*. Replaced them all with LEDs right away, other than the bathroom where I put new sealed LED fittings in.

Only thing using halogens are the bedside table lamps, which use those halogens inside globe type bulbs. Might be a pain to replace them with LEDs as they're touch activated dimmers and are somewhat fussy.

My whole house is LED apart from a pair of G4's in the cooker hood, but they will go LED once they blow. Slowly transitioning towards Philips Hue in most rooms now too. Wouldn't ever even want to buy another halogen, good riddance I say.
