Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

Schumacher still makes a lot of sense for Merc. He is driving well enough (this year's points reflect the car/team unreliability) and his brand value must be worth millions to the team.

exactly my thoughts - Im not saying that Rosberg would definitely be the one to lose his seat, but its not such a forgone conclusion as some want to suggest

Still no confirmation in the media.

Isn't this the sort of thing they would make a song and dance about?

Yea i would have thought so, id take it as rumor at the moment because thats all it is, i just got told by someone who is usually right on these sort of things so thought id share it because they are usually spot on, we'll see tho

I'm pretty sure he does, yes.

So the idea that Hamilton could replace him if Schumacher decides to say isn't as clear cut as just 'choosing Schumacher over Rosberg' then? I imagine if they are throwing all their savings at Hamilton to get him to join Merc, they wont have much left over to buy Rosberg out of his contract as well?

Unless of course they convince another team to buy it out for him.

schumacher attracts 10's of millions of sponsors they would lose more from not having schumacher than they would from keeping rosberg.

+ hamilton and schumacher have how many wins , poles and wdc between them?

its a lot more attractive than hamilton+rosberg thats for sure

Off course it is, any sort of F1 fan knows this.

Schumacher and Lewis is a much more appealing line up than Nico and Lewis. But some will just want to see MS replaced to get one over on you :)

Would Schumacher even want to be placed in a scenario where the world thought he kept a drive despite being beaten by his team mate 3 years on the trot because of sponsors?

Regardless of the money he brings in and past glories it would look pretty laughable. I can't see if would do anyone any favours, especially MS. It would make him keeping his drive no better than Maldonado with his 30m per year.

I'd like MS to continue, he's had a rough year car wise this year but not at the expense of his faster team mate.

So you think Nico is driving better than MS this year and hinge performances on points? I would say first year back Nico was way ahead, 2nd pretty much even and this year MS is the better performing driver.

Do you think Nico is the future for Merc?

so mercedes has never won a title and doesnt look like doing so as the regulations are nicely tied down, what about 2014??

if hamilton were to move it would likely be a multi year deal where he can bed in to a team and get settled and everything working for him, queue ready for 2014 title challenge.

Looking for a place where he could be bonefiedi number 1 driver. He isnt going to get that at McLaren, and is far more likely to get that at Merc no matter which of there current drivers stay.

People saying its all about the money, maybe its more about the chance, mclaren wont give number 1 status to any driver, merc likely will (assumption here so feel free to call me on this!). Also more freedom to deal with your own sponsorship deals etc could mean that merc wont have to pay him any more then mclaren are offering as he will just make more from personal sponsor deals!

I am a big mclaren fan and a big hamilton fan, i actually see a move like this working in the favour of both parties. I wouldnt mind kovalinen getting a second chance either!

If hamilton stays at mclaren again it will be no bad thing.

you do realise theres 1 importaint statistic this year?

out of the 7 races both mercedes cars finished the race schumacher finished infront of nico 6 times

yup schumacher is obviously dog **** driving terrible this year.....

if you only watch the points table and not the races

AUS - gearbox failure
malasia - spun around by grosjean and still finished infront of nico...
china - wheel nut not attached
spain - own fault
monaco - should have been on pole, rammed by grosjean and finally another failure
canada - DRS failure
hungary - brain fart

since the technical failures outside of his control went away he has utterly destroyed nico

You can't just compare like that. If you remove Nico's 6 worst results they are far closer. You could also cherry pick any set of result to suit your argument.

Nobody is going to pretend that Schumacher hasnt been screwed by mechanical issues or other drivers this year, and without the lost results he would definitely be much higher up. But when you look at the whole partnership there's very little to back a decision to keep the old guy for a year over keeping the young guy for longer.

Its also not like Nico is just a seat filler either. He seems to be held in high regards by the paddock and the general opinion is that his win was well over due rather than a lucky fluke.

And to top it all, in this massive rumour mill of everyone seemingly claiming anything and everything around the paddock, I've not read or heard even a hint that Mercedes are looking for ways to get Nico out of his contract. You'd have thought that if Mercedes were serious the rumours of Nico leaving would be going hand in hand with the rumours of Hamilton joining.

.

Wtf?

Why would you remove worse 6 and how is the above cherry picked.
Even if you include the msc mess ups, he's still ne better.

?

I'd say removing all the races Schumacher didn't finish is removing his 6 worst results, is it not?

I never said the above was cherry picked, just that you can, and I also never said Nico was better, only closer.

Edit: actually, if you do just pick their 7 best results, it puts Nico ahead, which just proves my point.

That's cherry picking.
Why the best 7?

Removing mechanical failures is sensible or team **** ups. Just deciding for no reason to discard races for no reason or rhyme is cherry picking.
