Truthfully though, notice periods must be reasonable and not punitive. Unless your job is specialised then enforcing a 3 month notice period is highly unlikely to by upheld if it went to court in a case of withheld wages or whatever.

within my company it seems you have full holiday entitlement from the get go, as we had a girl work with us for a few months and use all her holiday within that time and then leave! A few embarrassed faces !

3 months also works in your favour if you're being made redundant, a 3 month PILON payment is much better than 1 month.
