Handlebar ends

I was riding to work and felt something hit my foot. Didn't notice until I parked up that the bar end was missing. I think I'll just get some cheap Puig ones I assume they just screw in and that's it but is there any way to prevent this from happening again, do I need thread lock or something?

The cheap bar ends will not fit, they use an expanding collet which is designed for hollow bars that don't have a rubber mounted weight inside them as yours do. Not used the Puig ones, but if the are universal rather than bike specific parts they won't fit.

I'm assuming that's a Honda as it looks exactly the same as my Fireblade? Either get a new one from a Honda dealer, or a s/h one from a breaker or eBay.

EDIT: Looks like you can get pattern parts with the correct style fitting, no idea of quality though.

Looks like a early hornet/CBF500 (single front disc) to me, deffo a Honda wing on the tank. (yes I'm sad

) I have the same mounts/weights on my CB400, my throttle side one needs to be done up tight or, as you've found out, it tends to undo itself

You basically just need the metal bar end with the long allen bolt.

Yeah it's a NC700s. I was thinking of taking it back to the Honda dealer as they put on Heated grips a few months ago and I assume they didn't put thread lock on and I wasn't aware that I needed to keep an eye on it hence it's worked it's way loose.
I've ordered the Puig ones as it looks like they just come with a long bolt that just screws in rather than having to replace it with the expanding one hopefully it's a nice simple job.

Get some R&G bar ends and use a lot of threadlock. I lost one of mine the other day.. went back the next day and only found the fudger!!!

I almost bought that pair but they're quite expensive. I don't think I'd be lucky enough to find my bar end as it came off somewhere between the Blackwall tunnel and Soho and it's been a few days now.

I was about to but I wasn't sure they'd fit and I just want an easy life. The Puig ones are branded and a good tenner cheaper than the R&G ones, plus seem to be an easy fit. I don't want the hassle of having to remove, I don't know what it's called, but I'll call it the metal threaded core thingy so hopefully they just screw straight in

Do the Puigs have the step in the end that locates into the metal core and prevents the bar end rotating? If not they won't fit properly.

Don't remove the metal part from the bars, it's there to dampen vibration and makes a noticeable difference if you remove it.

Yeah I wasn't planning on removing them for that reason and it looks like hassle. I won't know if they fit properly til they arrive but I've read, on Puig's website I think, that it's a 1 minute job so hopefully it's been designed to be a straight swap.

hondas all have that little notch in them.

just check ebay for generic honda ones (or spend a fair bit and get some really heavy steel ones) use threadlock (blue). you can get cheap ones for less than a tenner.

A little purple Loctite on the thread of the new bar end will do the trick.

I found a picture of the ones I think I bought so yeah they look like they'll fit.

It'll still fit, I've just whipped one of mine off (oo-er!) and mine are generic bar ends without a flat bit

You just have to hold onto it while tightening it up so it doesn't turn.

The whole point is to stop it rotating, and it won't sit properly square when tightened. A bit of a bodge tbh, especially when the correct parts are so easy to get (and cheap for the pattern ones).
