Who likes happy hardcore? Not too keen on the new rubbish but the oldskool stuff was/is great. I've just got a Mark EG mix on - Vibealite & tomorrows world 97.

Its still fantastic, as was Anabolic Frolic, Helta skelta, Dreamscape and some of the early Bonkers CDs. The Bonkers CDs went downhill fast after Bonkers 4 imo

I think I was born 10 years too late, I used to listen to a lot of happy hardcore when i was around 13/14 but was obviously too young to go to the raves (In 1997 I would have been 13)

never into the bonkers stuff but the dreamscape sy, slipmatt, dougal, vibes etc tapes would always get a listen from me when i was 14 in 1994

one of my fav tunes to this day

Yeh, that is indeed a great tune.

It took me 5 years to refind and buy this cd again after i lost it but it was worth it

Helter Skelter - Masters @ Work Volume 1 Disc 2 Billy Bunter & Ramos

Some excellent tracks on there like Mr Hyde & UFO/Organ Power, Tripswatch/Tic Tak, Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime/Harmonizer

Just got it on now. Bunter/Ramos is definately the best cd. 'Dark' or something

I used to love it around 1994, when it was more amen breaks, pianos and chipmunk vocals.

^totally agree. happy hardcore is nothing without breaks and basslines. i can't stand the happy-techno nonsense that took over. it just got silly.

i shall be downloading that KF back catalog for sure.

one of my faves:

the bassline at 1:40 still makes me grin like an idiot. :D

Guest, you coming up to newcastle for the next distorted?

The lineup is pretty amazing :D

its like 20quid return on the train to leeds isnt it?

But tbh once the line up for distorted is released you'll probably change you mind ;)

Best hardcore line up I've seen south of scotland

i can't stand the new stuff, it's just sped up trance. the proper old skool is where it's at.

used to love DS tape(!) packs :)

EDIT:

The new stuff is complete rubbish! iv not bought any hardcore since about 2004 and that was a Raver Baby tape pack, i still but the odd tape pack now and then from 2000 backwards :)
Got into hardcore at the end of 96, 1st tape pack was Hardcore Heaven A Midsummer Nights Dream, (and its still the best pack iv got) still love it til this day :) Never went to a rave haha, just bought the tape packs and the CDs :) bonkers 1-4 & 6-12 i think, dreamscape millenium collection, and loads more

most of my tape packs...

Got about another 20 or so more than whats in the pic

I used to work security at dreamscape, the bonus for me was I was the only person who was a raver, so would get put on stage entry or dj/mc room. Then half way through night I'd change shirt then join my mates but kept radio in case something happened :)

used to be some great nights at bath pavilion as well.

The scene has seemed crap for years though :(

I don't like any of the old school stuff, infact I find it incredibly annoying to the ears! However, I must admit that I do enjoy a bit of the newer stuff. It's an absolute guilty pleasure and one I only endure when I've got a Saturday or Sunday night to myself. The headphones and Wacom/photoshop come out!

An example of what I'd listen to:

I suppose it's just my age, the newer stuff was all the rage in my earlier school days.

Used to love it when I was younger. :D

Got a few tape sets, mostly early-mid 90s Helta Skelta. Vibes and MC Livelee were a favourite.

Best set I ever heard though was Sy, Dreamscape 27.

I came into the UK hardcore scene since its 're-bith' back in 2003.

The scene is top atm and the events put on now are amazing with venues always packed out.

Guilty, for a good bouncy Squad-E and MC Storm. That man can certainly mix and plays some great tunes.

Going to Ravers Reunited at the Emporium next weekend, really looking forward to it and the lineup is immense 'Dougal b2b Hixxy' yes please :)

I was only 14 when i got into it :D 1st time i ever wanted to go to a rave was Helter Skelters Millenium Jam as it was supposed to be their last ever event and i was only 17 at the time, and the tickets were £100+ so if we couldnt get in then that would be us out £100+ wach on the ticket, stuck in the middle of Milton Keynes... Then came Helter skelters come back with Compulsion in 2001, was all set to pay for a ticket and the person i was going to go with had to ask his mums permission to go despite him being 18, and for some reason she said no, or he was bullcrapping to me and didnt wanna go :D

Happy hardcore always was and still is utter crapola. Please tell me what you enjoy about this style of music? Genuinely want to know, not just trolling.

MC Storm.

Does he still do that annoying vocal scratch thing?

There were some annoying MCs back then... Stixman, magika, Storm (but was good doing techno sets), Man Paris, Smiley, Whizzkid was good then got worse and worse and then him and Storm came up with something daft for when they would MC togeher something like MC2 (MC squared)
