I'm not sure why all of a sudden if there is any sort of hard drive activity, like I've just downloaded a podcast onto the desktop, that everything seems to refresh itself, so for instance if I had my mp3 folder open and had scrolled down to the bottom, that there is a refresh of the folder and it brings me back to the top. Can anyone explain why it's doing this?

Windows Xp btw. Any help appreciated. :)

It gets really annoying after a while when I'm scrolling down a folder looking for something and boom it refreshes and I'm back to the top.

The desktop is refreshed all the time but it's unusually for the whole shell to be refreshed all the time. Do you have a lot of stuff on your desktop?

No, only the main four icons, My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places and the Recycle Bin. It just seems that any new file being added to the hard drive, causes everything to be refreshed, like it's reindexing everything. It's incredibly annoying and I've not found a solution to it yet.

Any third party software installed that may be causing it? Filemon will show you all the disk activity, set it running then save a file and check the log.
