would getting 3 harddrives in your computer be a good idea or am i better of having just one big harddrive, cause this is what i was thinking of having:

Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB-that would be for my OS
Western Digital Raptor 150GB-would be for my games
Western Digital Raptor 150GB-also for my games but also for utilities and antivirus stuff.

I would go with the 3 drives. The only downside to this, is that it would draw more power than a single drive, but if you have a decent PSU then thats not a problem. 3 Drives will be faster, easier to manage IMO, and safer(ie, if one drive fails you loose 1/3rd of your data, whereas if a big drive fails, you loose 100% of your data) If I was you though, I would split it up into;

Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB - OS
Western Digital Raptor 150GB - Games/Programs
Western Digital Raptor 150GB - Files/Mp3's/Films etc

I would install Windows on the fastest drive as that is what will limit you most

Besides I seriously doubt you will see a difference between a Raptor and a 7200rpm drive for games and utilities.

He's right - the 150GB Raptor is faster than the 36GB

Also correct - get a Hitachi Deskstar. Excellent performance and you actually get a decent amount of storage too :D

I would just use a single 150 gig raptor with a 6gig partition for windows and split the rest up with a partition for programs and a partition for games.

Then have a big 7200 drive for data muisc video etc...

This is what I do, the 150 gig raptor is way faster than my old 36 raptor it replaced..

Aye, but IMO 150Gb for windows seems a bit of a waste. I suppose you could partition the drives, but personally I like keeping everything to physically seperate drives. As for choosing a Hitachi Deskstar over a Raptor, I agree with you, your not likely to see a huge difference, but if the OP can afford the Raptors then why not.

I stated a 6gig partition for windows and two other partitions on the 150gig raptor making 3 partitions.

And a sepaerate HDD for data!

cheers for all the input but i think ive figured out a good setup for the hard drives:

Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 NCQ 500GB- For everything except OS
Western Digital Raptor 74GB - For OS

I dont bother with movies or mp3 basically all i use my pc is for gaming and surfing the net.
My psu is enermax 600w SLI it should be fine.

OT but are Desktars no longer Deathstars anymore then (i.e. complete data death traps)?

Surely a Seagate 7200.10 250GB (150's not out yet is it?) would be a better choice?
