From what I can find it doesn't support ddr2 no

Do you know anyone with a spare stick of ddr3 you could try?

Unfortunately not

Luckily i bought the ram through amazon and according to the site the new ram should arrive tomorrow and they're picking up the old ram next Monday. So i shouldn't be left without ram. Even if it turns out to be nothing to do with the ram it's still faulty non the less.

Likely the RAM was causing corruption in the registry/profile.
