Hi all

So, I just got my 120gb Vertex 2E and installed it. When I reached the BIOS stage to change SATA mode to AHCI, I noticed that the mobo wasnt detecting either my new Vertex or my old WD500gb drives. Only the DVD burner shows up on sata devices.

Im at a loss as to why it can't see my HDD anymore, or cant see my SSD either. Anyone got any advice?

Does your board have more than 1 SATA controller? The main BIOS will only show devices which are connected to the Intel controller.

My board has 3 controllers and 9 ports total. These are 2 Marvell 6.0gb/s ports, 1 Jmicron 3.0gb/s and 6 Intel 3gb/s.

All 3 devices are connected to the blue Intel ports, and I can hear my mechanical drive spinning up so it seems like it cant be a power issue?

It just seems odd that since adding the second drive, my WD drive has also seemingly disappeared

Iv had this happen a few times to me in the past, what i used to do, was to unplug and re connect the sata cables, boot up and it saw them, annoying but sorted it.

Might be worth a try as its a quick thing. May not work but is worth a try.

Hmm, it wasnt the sata cables, but the sata power connectors. I dont get why, even though the drive was spinning up?
Anyway, I attached the drives to different power connectors and suddenly they were recognised again. Seems odd, as all 3 power connections on the cable work fine? I'll be damned if I can figure out why it buggered up, but sod it, its working now!
Windows install speeds are already impressive, about 15 minutes from a USB boot :)

Glad you got it sorted, it is annoying when its the cables not fully connected, even though they certainly feel like it lol.

Think my install took 15 mins also, took longer to do all the updates after lol.
