One of my HDD's keeps hanging every so often...iam not quite sure if its a windows issue or the HDD itself. Its normally when Iam just browsing the net, you can hear the HDD loading and then windows freezes for 4/5 seconds or so.

Iam sure the HDD is fine, I dont think its a hardware fault *touches wood*! Just wondered if anyone knew what may be causing this?

Its probably sleeping (as in the HDD is waking, causing the delay), check your power options. Defrag wont help.

Yeah good shout.

Yeah in power options it has 'turn off hard disk after' 20 mins. Ive got X4 drives tho, any idea if you select individual drives?

Not sure if you can relate it to individual drives but i bet that is your issue. Turn it off and test it, bet it will be that.

Yeah, thanks again, I think your right :) It would be handy to have a function to leave my external HDD on wake or even off to save me from de-powering it most nights

Might as well just leave them running all the time really mate, saves the delay each time and means the drives are not spinning up an down all the time

Yeah looks the best option, and will just disconnect the external and connect weekly for my backup's :)
