Hard drive keeps going missing!

I've got one fairly elusive drive at the moment, and it's driving me insane. It's a Western Digital Caviar black, it's about 10 months old, and over the past day or two it keeps disappearing. It likes to vanish from my system, and I only spot it when I try to open something only to get a 'this location is not available message'.

It seems to be coinciding with me changing my PSU, though I haven't moved/touched my drives at all. It's sharing a 2x SATA power to molex cable with another drive which is working perfectly fine, which leads me to believe it isn't power related, and it's just coincidence.

I've wiggled the cables about to make sure they're not loose, I've changed the SATA port it's on, and I've tried using a different SATA cable, and still no joy.

Is my HDD about to die on me? :(

The strange part is, if I restart my system, it reappears again as if nothing has happened.

Any help would be much appreciated :D

Thanks, I might try it. It's the last thing to do (apart from flashing my BIOS again to see if it's a controller issue). I've narrowed it down to the fact that if I hibernate and resume my system, it doesn't wake up. I'ts quite frustrating :)

If all else fails, it's a new HDD for me :(

I had a hard drive do that as well. I got a new one and problem went away.

Update your Intel chipset drivers. I had this problem when hibernating, and this is fixed in latest drivers.
