have just had my rma back from western digital.

my hard drive is a Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKS)

Now i plugged the hard drive in, jumpers at default from factory and off we go, expecting plug and play using vista.

My computer shows no drive, look at device manager and it shows, go into tools for memory management and nothing shows there, strange. So i can not format the drive.

So look at device manager and says its working fine, drivers no driver, try looking through windows online and nothing.

what do i need to do to get the hard drive to work?

Have you tried disk manager? to enable the disk for formatting.

Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools ->
Computer Management. From there select Disk Management from the list on the left hand side.

I would check the jumper, then remove the sata cable from a "known" working hd, and put it on the new one.
