My PC recent went screwy and i had to replace my mobo that had borked. So i installed my new mobo (Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3) and installed windows fresh on my SATA drive.

So all working.. I installed my 2nd hard-drive an IDE Maxtor 320gb.. But when i look in windows it shows it as having 1 partition (not-formatted) and 1 half un-partitioned (un-allocated). But prior to me changing hard-drive this HDD was working correctly and had 2 formatted partitions with all my files on it..

Any idea what could be happening?

Is it a dynamic or basic disk?

Maybe you need to initialize the disk?

Last HD I bought I selected not to go with the default option disk management gave me and it turned into a dynamic disk.

This sounds familiar to the problem I encountered:

It might be you need to convert the dynamic disk to basic. I used the "hack" method but I have seen microsoft offer a method too.

The microsoft method asks you to eraze each "volume" which erazes data on it:

so you might be better to use the "hack" method.

That is if this is the same situation.
