Hi

I am looking into upgradeing my system but can't make my mind up on what type of drive to buy. At the moment i have a seagate 7200.10 with my os & games on it & a Hitachi 750 with data & a external for my mp3 & video's etc. I am wondering if i should get anouther Hitachi 750 to raid them or to save up & get a 128 ssd which would be best . I am running phemon 2 720 with 4 gig ram on vista 64 thanks for any advice..

The 128 ssd will mop the floor with the hdd raid0 setup. It's all about access times which are less than 1 ms for ssd's. Buying another hitachi would be a waste imho, unless you are just needing the extra storage, but it won't be a OS/games performance drive like you are looking for.

Thanks for your reply.

I am going to save up for the 128 SSD just to use for the o/s & games & the Hitachi will just be for storage/date better start saving then cheers..

samsung based SSDs (90mb/s reads - 70MB/s Writes i own one of these eveyr thing is fast)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-000-CS&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427 corsair S128 £181
or for 200mb read and Writes + £90 more
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-001-CS&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1427 Corsair P128 £270(2.5-3x faster on data rate then S128, access times are still the same fast speeds)

for Indilinx based SSDs, you need to use the Wiper tool to keep these drives up to speed untill Windows7 Trim support comes out on these disks

Thanks

So is it more the access time i should look out for & not the read write aspect?. i could afford the first corsair if that was the case..cheers

i use the corsair S128 and apart form data rate speeds if i got one of the 200MB/s SSDs for £90 more your only talking about 1-4 secs better loading time and for most you not likely notice it but going from an HDD my system runs smooth on it now

Thanks

Just decideing which Corsair to get. The 90 write speed or the 200 write speed as i play a lot of command & conquer & championship manager . I also surf the internet a lot & go on football & Wwe forums cheers..

Hi

I bought the kingston 128g v series ssd last week and it doesnt suffer from stuttering the stuttering was with earlier jmicron controllers the v series has updated toshiba/jmicron controllers and firmware.

But does it have any cache? The reason the jmicron drives had stuttering was the lack thereof.
Also, it's entirely possible you might only encounter stutttering once the drive has been filled once and erased, i.e. there are no blank blocks.

I think i mite get the s128 found it for £160 then use it for a while then when the better ones come down in price i will give the s128 to my wife for her laptop cheers..
