Hi Guys,

I've just taken delivery of a Samsung F2 Ecogreen 1.5Tb HD (Model No: HD154UI), which according to the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo I've bought it for, is dead. the RAIDar utility tool that Netgear use to connect to the device simply states "Bad Disks Detected" and seems to be attempting to sync in perpetuity. How can one go about checking whether the disk is at fault or the NAS? The only way that occurs to me is to take one of the side panels off my PC's case and connect it to one of the SATA Headers on the motherboard and see if Windows recognises it. I don't have another disk to put into the NAS unfortunately. :(

Cheers, Mike

I've managed to get hold of a SATA cable this morning and just connected the HD to my PC's PSU and a SATA header. Now that it's out of the NAS enclosure and away from it's fan noise, I can now hear the drive makes a sort of scrubbing sound as it runs, so it sounds like the drive's taken a knock during delivery.

I'll see if I can RMA it, but is it too late to RMA it as damaged in transit considering I took delivery on Tuesday?
