Hi,

Im currently having major problems with my second hard drive that i use to store all of my stuff. It makes some funny noises but starting up it goes to the windows checkdisc of which first stage it goes through fine but gets stuck on the second stage. if it eventually makes it to xp os i cant even see the drive on my computer. Does anyone know what the problem is? if you think its not fixable, does anyone know of a way to get the info on that drive back as i have so many files i need to keep!! even if i can sent it to a recovery expert type person anyone have any recommendations???? Thanks for your help Tom

Go get the drive manufacturer's own diagnostic program (links are in the sticky at the top of the forum) and run that. You'll get a better idea of what's up with the disk from that than from chkdsk.

Im not sure what it is cant seem to get those tools to diagnose it!! its just started working again so im frantically copieing everything over at the moment, ive just ordered a external 500gb hard drive to back everything up and a new internal one for my files. Is there any programs that will automatically backup this external drive with everything i have automatically say once a week etc??? Thanks

You could probably use Acronis TrueImage to schedule a backup. If you want something free, you could use Windows own in-built backup utility, but I don't know if you can schedule it, or you can definitely schedule a robocopy-based backup script.
