Hi,
Need some advice please.

Bought a couple of Western Digital WD5000AAKS drives in January this year from OCUK.
One is now faulty. After managing to retrieve most of my data, i've ran WD diagnositics and it comes up with errors.
I went onto WD website to arrange RMA and it doesn't have a UK warranty, it only has a US warranty.

Phoned up WD today who confirmed to me, after asking for the serial number, that the drive only has a US warranty and does not have the 3 year warranty as advertised on OCUK website. They said it must OCUK'S supplier supplying non-European drives in error.

Bit late in the day for me to contact OCUK now but have the burning questions:

Is this usual?
Will OCUK honour an RMA directly to them in this instance?

Thanks

I would have thought you could RMA it to OcUK instead, if you explain that WD wouldn't accept it due to having a US warranty. Your drive is only 7 months old anyway, so even if it only had a 1 year warranty they still have to change it.

Thanks. Will get in touch with OCUK on Monday.

A couple more questions.

1. Would OCUK refund the cost of me posting it to them as it is faulty?

2. Would they let me buy a larger capacity Seagate HD and pay the difference?

Thanks

1: most respectable companys will, confirm it with them.

2: a few companys I have come across will do this, however in your RMA request ask if you can upgrade the drive.

Thanks for replying again.

I guess that if i can upgrade, i would be exchanging the drive for it's current new cost rather than the price i paid for it. (£64 as opposed to £150) or could i expect a refund for the price i paid?

Thanks

It would be the invoice price you paid I would have thought (it was when a friend of mine upgraded his 5 month old faulty graphics card).

refunds are only for 30 days after purchase after that its a straight swap usualy in any online shop
