Hard drive space being used up but no sign of files?

Hi.

On another HDD partition all the files come up as using 156gb, but only 27.6gb is free when the partition size is 298gb?

Any ideas?

I would windirstat it first to see if anything obvious comes up, if the space is just missing then scandisk it.

windirstat? Browse the directory? I have

Scandisk? As in cmd do chkdsk or use a specific programme?

I suggest running SpaceMonger - its great for seeing what uses up the most disk space..

This. Get rid of the older $NTUninstall folders under the c:\windows folder.

Was just about to say I have just "fixed someone's external who had the same problem.....turns out there was nothing to fix they had just hidden the files!

folder settings, turn on view hidden files
