Hard Reset (PC exclusive) - Thread

I just ran the demo, the game looks gorgeous at full blast. I like it, feels like a good old fashioned PC shooter with added bells n' whistles. However as others have said, not sure it's worthy of £23 if it only lasts a few hours?

I'm undecided.

A post to the Steam Users' Forums has details on modding Hard Reset, as a user named DonkeyGravy has broken down how the data files work in the recently released cyberpunk first-person shooter. Thanks Aaron for the heads up on this, who points out: "Forum user Mr. Wonko has already released a mod to remove the intro movies. DonkeyGravy is adding penumbra shadows and some other shader refinements."

How are people getting on with this?

I absolutely love games like this (old school run-and-gun), but it took me a while to get into this one. I'm enjoying it, but for a 'shoot everything that moves' game it feels a bit cramped. Serious Sam and Painkiller both give you plenty of room to maneuver when taking down wave upon wave of mindless enemies, but here too many spaces seem just too cramped... given that virtually all the enemies move faster than you I would have liked more space in a few areas.

Also, the destructible environmental objects... they can be fun, and they add another small dimension to the gameplay, but at times they can be more of a hindrance than a help. I must have died more times from environmentals going off than from enemy fire, especially in the more cramped areas. I find myself destroying all explosives before I attempt do battle, which probably isn't what they were intended for.

Final niggle: No crouch! I can understand not including a crouch function in a game like this, but don't tease us with its absence! The number of times there is a big pack of nano behind a fence, and an easy 5ft gap under to it. But no - crouch you cannot! You have to find the long way around.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the game now - anything with a giant stompy super-robot gets bonus points from me, and trapping enemies with grav grenades never gets old... It just feels like it hasn't been play tested so thoroughly. Which is a shame. Bring on Serious Sam 3 (after I've done a playthrough on insane!).

Is anyone else even playing this game? :p

So it turns out that the last boss fight was pretty damn awesome. One of the better constructed boss fights I've come across (though it was a bit of a mare to beat on insane difficulty!).

I'm going through again, trying to find all the secrets and mop up any achievements I've missed. Other than the secrets and the "kill [an insane number of] enemies" achievements, the only ones I'm missing are:

a) Kill 20 enemies with one shot
b) Kill 30 enemies in 20 seconds

I have no idea how to do these... There are one or two areas where 20+ small bots congregate, but killing them in one shot seems near-impossible (you can't use the grav grenade to trap them, because that counts as "a shot"). I haven't found anywhere at all that has 30+ bots running around at once, so I have no idea how to do b).

What a game!

Not finished yet but by god I'm loving it. It has been long long time since I've enjoyed a shooter like this.

Worth every ****** penny :)

Just completed this, decent game. Can't think of many better indie titles.

+Great graphics and decent physics
+Fun combat, much better than the recent Painkiller games
+Choice of upgrades gives it a bit of variety
+Boss fights that are won via combat skill not some stupid gimmick involving pressing buttons or whatever
+Environmental damage spices things up a bit, somehow feels better than the oldschool barrel mechanic (which it basically is... maybe the graphics help)
+Good value as they had the sense not to overprice it

-Fairly short game at around 5hrs, although I understand it has a NewGame+ mode
-Some (perhaps to be expected) slowdown during massive fights to around 45fps, bearing in mind I only have an i5-750 and GTX470.
-Story is weak with cutscenes showing their indie roots, although it does doff its cap to Max Payne with the cartoon style.
-Ends rather abruptly

Extended Editon @ retail (which has no Steam integration whatsoever) was supposed to come out in UK yesterday it includes the new DLC content I had it as a pre-order then at the last minute it got cancelled again for the 2nd time to 20th April. Bad move on the publishers part (Kalypso Media who apparently did not even have the courtesy to send the developers a box of the game or even the artwork  FWH asked someone on Steam to send them it instead I kid you not!!!).

The DLC content is coming free to all Steam owners of the current version but unfortunately its not coming until late April early May so just wait for that to drop then (Germany & US got the retail version weeks ago not sure what DRM but its not a Steamworks game at all completely different to the Steam version DRM wise as the publisher did not buy the rights for digital versions only physical).

Finally got round to making a start on this after I bought it in the Steam sale. I forgot how much I enjoyed the demo! One thing I noticed is that it runs far better than the demo did on my GTX 460. Almost flawless with pretty much max settings at 1920x1200
