Harddrive help...

Im really not sure what i did here lol... i was formatting a usb stick and for some reason i seem to have deleted the data or did something to my external harddrive.. When i went to click on it it came up with something like this drive needs to be formatted for it to be accessable...
The weird part is its about 270GB this drive... and i had about 240GB of data on it...
I decided to click format but it only shows a capacity of 30gb now and theres nothing inside it...
Not really sure how that happened

Sounds like you've created a partition and formatted that.

Im not sure what i did lol. Its called Local disc G: now before it was just called by the harddrive name. Is there anyway to get back all that data that i had on it and get the space back? not sure how to do that.

Okay, go to Start and type in 'create and format' and click the first option. Take a screenshot of the window that opens and paste it here.

as you can see disc 2 200gb unallocated

Yep, you've created a partition as I suspected.

Right click on 'G' and click 'Delete Volume', if you can.

Unfortunately, yes .

Now, right click on that volume and click 'Format' and follow the instructions.

Theres no format option when i right click on it in that program and its missing from my drive list now under my computer.

This is a good lesson though: back-up, back-up, back-up! I'd definitely back-up to the cloud if you can in addition to another hard drive.

The funny thing is this was my backup lol i had it on my main drive too but recently formatted n hadnt got around to putting it back on so it was only on my external which i just erased.
