Hi guys,

Just a general query (not aimed at OCUK) but if a product is faulty and it is within 12 months, can I request a refund? Apparantly I can't as it has to be within 28 days and I have to send the router directly to Netgear.

This is the norm?!

Yup that's the norm

Just buy a replacement now and sell the RMA'd one

Is it cable or dsl?

If it's cable, then get a linksys wrt54GL, and put tomato firmware on it, best router ever :)

if the product is faulty within 12 months then its upto the retailer to get it sorted for you and not the manufacturer

sometimes its easier to send it direct to the manufacturer though

Yep you should be entitled to a refund. Look under the Sales of Goods Act 1979.

The whole 28 day thing is meanless. Its not compulsory under Law. The Law states (me cutting it down here) that you are entitled to a refund if the fault happened in a "short period of time". I would say anything up to AT LEAST 6-8 months is a short time for a fault to happen.

Thats a new one to me, I thought they only had to repair or replace it. If they cant (repair/replace) they offer you current market value (not the amount you paid)...

I guess was wrong.

You can get a repair/replacement if you want to. But under Law, everyone is entitled to a refund if a fault happens within a short period of time and its up to the trader to help you. not the manufactuer.

take a look at Consumer Direct. It will tell you all the rights you have when buying things.
