Just read the report on this system from Guru3D and it sound very impressive, i dont know anything of Core Duo but do people think AMD have pulled the rug from underneath Intel even before intel have had a chance to bring out there new chip.

The way I read things, the nForce chipset was more efficient than other chipsets, when you had an SLI setup.

Going by the amount of nForce related problems I've seen on this forum alone, I think I'll stick with my Intel chipset and processor. ;)

mine and many other nforce motherboards run fine

The only reason there were so few Intel complaints compared to nForce was because no-one was buying the Intel gear as the nForce stuff was so much more better/cheaper/popular/delete where applicable ;)

Im looking forward to intels new lineup

I have to admit that I am as well. Gotta say it's the first time I've been looking forward to an Intel chip for a long while. And seeing as AM2 seems to be only a minor improvement on the socket 939 chips then Conroe should definitely help keep AMD on their toes, which can only be a good thing for us lot.

I'm certainly looking forward to building Intel machines for a change. Up until now I've only ever built them when I couldn't persuade customers to go for an AMD setup, now I may well not argue quite as hard as I used to againt going for an Intel-based machine.

Doesn't mean I'll be building one for myself with an Intel chip mind :) Gotta keep my AMD fanboy status! And on that score, I will make the move to AM2 from my current 754pin Venice setup in a few months.

From reading the Guru 3D article it would appear that AM2 is far more than a little improvement, its a long (20 page) article but i would encourage everybody to read it, the overclocking possabilities are amazing, and that is with every mobo rigardless of manufactoror.
Go on, read it

if you buy intel youve sould your soul to the devil. end of story. never mind whose cpu is better on what platform blah blah ect ect, devil + intel purchase = sold soul. simple. :)

the definition of a fanboy?

No, to be a fanboy you must blindly support only one manufacturer with a position that cannot be borne out by the available facts. Anyone can see locutus12 is making an entirely reasoned statement which is easily provable ergo it follows those who buy Intel are devilspawn ;) :)

More seriously however I've not yet had the chance to read the Guru3D article but I've still got fairly high hopes for Conroe as I think it could provide a spur to AMD to not simply rest on its laurels(not that it is necessarily) as an industry with two competitive forces will benefit the consumer. That doesn't mean that I will buy Intel on my next CPU purchase whenever it may be but it would be good to have a more even choice.

I don't think the devil offers remortgage options  so it looks like you've shot your bolt by choosing fireworks, no Conroe for you, sorry :o

Who said I sold it to the devil? ;)

For the terminally lazy, like myself ;) here is the link to the Guru3D article, from a brief scan through it does appear that AM2 offers a fair bit more than I thought in terms of performance but I'd still be tempted to call it more evolution than revolution right now. Some of the auto-overclocking features, the additional SATA ports and the PCI-E working better overall are pretty cool though :)

//edit nearly finished now and those are some damn poncey graphs, what with all that only appearing and then rotating when you hover over them.

im loving the fact that all boards based on 590, even the foxconns and asrocks, have to have all the bios options available else they dont get certified :D

Well it is certainly looking up at least for the high end but that doesnt help us mere mortals that can't afford SLi or the 590 based boards (not to mention £350 ram).

Although the new zalman in black...shiny :D

you dont need the 350 quid ram!!!!!!!!!!!!11

just buy some patriot low latency @ 160 for 2gb, or the value @ 130 - will see you fine
