I use a screen protector to protect the display from micro scratches rather than breakage. No matter how tough they say the screen is, it will always get micro scratches, no matter how careful you are.

Not going to lie, I think they have made iphone screens harder to crack in recent years but they scratch so easily now. I already have quite a noticeable scratch on my 16 pro and I can't think where from. Its in a case and I am pretty careful with it.

My 13 pro was also covered in scratches.

Broke the screen on my iPhone 8 Plus in 2019 after taking it out of it's folio cover to show someone how good of a condition the case was in protecting the iPhone - luckily still had insurance as I was still in the process of emigrating to the UK so claimed it and had a new battery installed.

Cracked the top right hand part of my my iPhone 13 pro screen in 2023 whilst travelling in London - I'd taken off the screen protector as it was cracked and although fine, I promised I'd fit the new one which was at home. The crack is roughly 2cm deep to the right and gets shallower until it goes under the selfie camera and ends roughly 3mm to left of the camera.

The crack has made the front facing camera unit sit off centre ever so slightly so the facial reading to unlock the phone isn't as good anymore and it's obviously lost its waterproof (should be called water resistance IMO) rating so I have to be careful, even in humid areas like in the toilet when taking a shower and wanting to listen to a podcast or music.

Really annoyed about the iPhone 13 Pro screen as it'll cost £250~ to replace it via iSmash (maybe less if I wait) or £350 though Apple and the phone is only worth £400 tops.

I don't need to upgrade for ages as the 13 Pro is still fast and nothing about even the 16 Pro is tempting me at all - the AI stuff can suck an egg.

Sorry for the long post. TLDR: Yes, twice.

Not for years now, the last one I smashed was done the day before I planned to trade it in…

They definitely scratch easier now though and we say neigh to screen protectors.

The scratch resistance of modern phone is amazing - phones after the time of the Nokia 3210 and between the Motorola Razr and up until even the iPhone 8 Plus were so prone to scratches.

My 8 Plus had a ton of scratches from drops and rough use.

That hasn’t been the case for me with iPhones and their screens. I'm also not someone who puts their phone in the same pocket as their keys or anything either.

Same here. I have a deep scratch on my 16 pro and I have no idea where from. I never put it next to anything obviously likely to scratch it. I think they have sacrificed scratch resistance for overall durability personally.

Things like that make me go postal, so generally speaking my phone isn't out of the box before I'm put a screen protector and case on it. I can quite proudly say that all of my phones look new out of the box when I come to resell them.

So you spend years not looking at your actual phone but make sure it's nice so the next person can have something immaculate?

Life's too short, I'd rather enjoy what I've got than save it for someone else. But we're all different.

I suppose that's one way to look at it. i get very obsessive over dings and scrapes, and so I know that if i created a major blemish, I wouldn't be able to sleep.

The scratches don't really affect my use of the phone. I just occasionally notice them when the light hits the phone at the right angle. Usually when the screen is off ironically.
