Well after playing the Crysis demo last night i proceeded to cancel my pre-order of the game. Ive just spent a fortune on a new pc and i want to be able to play the newest games with no problems, not to go and buy it and turn the graphics down.

IMO crytek have just ployed a very bad marketing technique.
 
IMO Crysis is meant for newer cards, quad core optimisation should come with the final release, and seeing as how the 8800GTX has been top dog for almost a year the game isn't likely to run at 1920x1200 full AA/AF, we all need 9800GTX's in SLI...no biggie.

Thats probably £1k's worth of GPU right there mate, to play 1 game ? For some reason i think the current market is being unfair.

Also were not expecting the 98's untill next year ! The games out next month..
 
who cares if the sliders aint on the max, does it really matter? Is the game fun? well play it, if it isnt, why not just watch a movie, or look out the window?
Even on medium the game looks hot.
Dont really understand how you aint playing it on high, i had the beta on high on my 320 8800GTS and e4300.. both overclocked obviously and only at 1280x1024.. but still, very playable on high

Ive just spent a fortune, to play this very game ? Am i not allowed to be annoyed ?!

It was known for ages the game scales 2 years into the future, and that a 8800 ultra won't run it maxed @ high reso and aa etc...
You've spent a fortune to play this, then play this, at high, it still looks awesome.
I don't understand why you want to play it very high immediatly, it's made in a way so that when you get a new graphics card in a year, the game will look even prettier and still compete with the newest titles.
Renember the time it took to play farcry maxed, it's great imo as the game still looks superb today.

So imo: No, you have no reason to be annoyed, you should be greatful the game will look even nicer in the future.

People always want better and better graphics then they release something as beautiful as Crysis and you moan that your rig can't play it on full? It looks awesome even on medium settings and as you acquire better hardware in the future it will look even better, how the hell is that a bad thing?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, spending a 'fortune' on a PC does NOT give you a divine right to run all the latest games in Max settings.

Look at it this way - Crysis on Medium will likely look better than most games on Max. Just concentrate on what the gfx look like rather than what the little sliders in the menu says. If it makes you feel better, imagine that whatever is called 'medium' is actually 'ultra high'.

No, you aren't. You should have got SLI 8800ultras if you wanted the best performance and even then I wouldn't be expecting smooth fps if you crank everything up.
 
I'd be blaming the graphics card companies tbh, ATi have lagged behind and aren't clawing back, there is no pressure to realease better crads more frequently, tbh I'm rather disappointed at the progress in the hardware side of things.
 
I dont think they'll be many cancelling, they should do well in the long term as other companies look to mod the engine. I only have a x1950pro and I played it on high anyway, its worthy of the hype
 
My computer is old, 6800GS old, and I'm still going to get it. Even if I have to play it all on low I'll still get it.
 
I think quite a lot of people are losing the point. Crysis isn't even out yet, and many games have improved considerably between demo and the the full thing. I know many games where I didn't like the demo, but played the full game and loved it.

To the OP, are you really buying a game just for the graphics? If so, and your disappointed that you can't run it on max, then by all means be annoyed, its your right. I agree with what your saying to a certain extent, but many people will have pre-ordered for the gameplay as well.

What I will say is that were Crysis any other game without all the hype, you wouldn't be the only person complaining about not being able to run it on high. All I can say is, we shall see on release.
 
I think some people are missing the most obvious of points. Does it really matter if the slider is at very high? I'm running it on medium on a 7800 and it looks like secks, i'm sure with your system you can run it on high, which is probably like secks covered in chocolate.

It makes no difference if no one can play at the very top of the scale - it's still the best looking game on the market at present and the better the pc the better it will look.

I personally think that the main problem people have is willy waving rights. If they cant say its 124xAA and 1billion Anistropy at 1 trillion x 1 gagillion res when they post screen shots so people feel jealous of your awesomeness is there really any point in playing the game?
