Has anyone gone from a 2500K to a 6600K?

I must admit I am also now in the unsure what to do camp..... I have an i5 2500k which has been happily running @4.3ghz since 2011.... Truth is the cpu is still fine, but for the oculus rift I am going to need 2 USB 3 (which is all my current rig has) and also I cant SLI on my motherboard.

pretty much ruled out the 6600k due to thinking HT may be handy for gaming going forward, but the 6700k pricing is horrid right now.

Almost tempted to go X99 on a 6 core, or save a punch of cash and go for an I7 4790.

Sensible head is saying hang fire till both the rive and VIVE are out (I already have a DK2 to put me on) but baby due in 1 month and I just do not see the boss letting me splurge £1300+ on pc upgrade and VR HMD once we have a baby!

decisions decisions :)

I have a 2500k and i think i'll just get a cheap 2600k or 3770k just to last me till next year. Can't see the point on spending any more.

upgrade from a 2500k to a 3770K and tbh the difference isn't huge gaming wise (wasn't expecting stellar changes)... not tried anything that uses the extra cores. Have been contemplating X99 changes but will see if black Friday deals are any good...

I promised to report back about my experience going from a 2600K to a 6600K, which I've been running for a week now. And sure, as expected differences are few but the platform feels definitely smoother, in Windows as well in game. And the 4.5GHz / 4.1GHz (Core / Cache) OC certainly helps! I am not missing HT at all so far, not even in Syndicate which recommends HT. So yeah the i5 is an awesome CPU and made me much happier!

I just don't see my 2700k being outdated any time soon, clocked @ 4.8ghz it minces through any game highly doubt I'd see any noticeable improvement upgrading for the money it would cost

I went from a 3570k to a 2700k and that's where I will stay till a real game changer comes along
