Has anyone got Netflix HDR working on a Samsung TV yet

Netflix rolled out HDR 10 & Dolby Vision in mid March for Marco Polo & Daredevil s2 but its not working on my Samsung TV

I emailed Samsung & they said my TV is HDR compatible so it must be the Netflix app... The Netflix help website advises Samsung TV's are supported with HDR but I cant get it work on my JS8000.
Amazon HDR has worked for months but their HDR content is limited.

Only 8,9 series Samsung TV's have HDR as the SUHD have quantum dot / 10 bit colour. This includes those from March 2015... Not to be confused with HDMI 2.0a.

I'm wishing I got a Vizio now as they're working with Netflix HDR

The app should show a HDR logo by those titles, I've already set the 4 screen UHD option.

June/July... Nooo. Not even with a 9 series. Ouch
Kinda takes the mickey when Visio and Panasonic have got it. Come on Netflix update your Tizen app.

Thanks guys

On a side note, if anyone is unaware of HDR. From my experience I can't see the difference between 4k and 1080p 10ft away from a 55" but can deffo see the improvement with HDR.

I've got a 60ju6800 which is meant to have her (streaming only whatever that means) I was under the impression to turn it on, you have go set colour space to native.

Thats cool a ju6800 having quantum dot or nano chrystal as Samsung call it. I'd guess if it can do 10bit then it can do HDR... Find the Life of Pi HDR demo to test

I thought native was for an input like a player and custom (after setting correctly from a review) was for when using the TV player from LAN or an app.

Its only an 8 bit panel but hdr works on life of pi (via usb) so not sure about the netflix app. Have any of you guys got it working yet? ill look at netflix tonight to try and find some hdr content.

That's interesting about the 10ft distance and 4k. I'm currently debating between a 4k or 1080p non hdr oled 55" set myself.

Just how good is HDR on an LED vs no HDR on an OLED?

I watched the first episode of Marco Polo season 2 on my Samsung UE55KS9000 TV last night. I was using the built in Netflix app and it played quite happily in 1080p HDR mode. You could definitely tell the difference, however, Netflix have encoded the video very poorly and there were many annoying compression artifacts.

Guys sorry if a bit off topic but have any of tried gaming with HDR tonemapped games with a compatible GPU like the Nvidia 10 series or latest AMD RX480?

Not sure currently how many titles have proper HDR tonemapping other than Tomb Raider. Although clearly Microsoft Horizon 3 and GOW will bring it within a couple of months for both PC and new XB1 console.

Si it actually shows HDR in a little box at the top next to 4k and 5.1?

Can confirm it's now working on panasonics 2016, i've got the DX750B and while not a true honeycomb structure and only edgelit you can definitely see a big difference between marco polo in HDR and non HDR

I have a Sammy JS9000 55", and until I discovered this thread I was wondering why I am not able to get the 4K on Netflix - this despite having upgraded my account with them for it. So what exactly is the problem here - can someone explain it to me? Is it a problem with Samsung or Netflix?

is only a really selct set of programs, type into netflix search 4K or UHD and see if and of the titles come up with the 4K rather than HD, what source are you getting netflix to the TV from. And its a problem with the tv manufactures, netflix are doing their bit fine as i'm using HDR now. Just your TV needs a firmware update for HDR

depends how many Nits the TV can output and how the TV is lit. OLED can give much better blacks as they can completely turn of the pixels, LCD can give better whites as they can have a higher peak brightness i know the panny DX902 is honeycomb structure with a few hundred dimming zones in the 65 inch version and is apparently very HDR friendly.

most decent lcds put out 500-1000 nits
OLED put out upto 500 nits altho LG are working on a model that can apparently put out 1000Nits

From another site
DOLBY VISION VS HDR 10 – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The main specification differences are that masters of movies are done at 12-bit, rather than HDR 10’s 10 bits. Also, peak brightness can go – in theory, at least – right up to 10,000 lumens. In reality, most Dolby Vision masters seem to be targeting 4,000 nits – which remains a very big step up from the 1,000 nits that HDR 10 masters work to.

My 50DX700B Panny does HDR though it's only 8bit but excellent. One thing I have noticed with HDR is that you need to watch with the room light no more than five candles, that's quite dark but worth doing as it looks great and I watch from 6ft away which also makes a big difference to viewing 4K. When I go into Netflix it goes to 4K content and the Panny goes straight into Rec2020 and 100% contrast and backlight. Am well impressed with this Panny.

Thanks for the reply - I am using a ROKU box for Netflix, and the supposed 4K programs only show as HD - so I guess I am affected and will have to wait for a firmware update from Samsung? Annoying as the TV is a 4K set.

You have activated the extra subscription for 4screens and UHD haven't you? £8.49 per month

Also to stream netflix 4k your equipment needs to be HDCP2.2 compliant Are your TV and ROKU box HDCP2.2 especially the TV my panny only has 2 ports dedicated to HDCP2.2 that's hdmi 1 and 2 so make sure everything is connected properly. If your not connected to hdcp2.2 then 4k content might not even show let alone play.

did a quick search on google lots of people having problems with the roku box only outputting 1080 so it might be worth you having a look.

does it not have a netflix dedicated app inbuilt like the panasonics do? it's actually rather good but ultimately on 4k you still get some interpolation due to the compression. it affects some programs more than others. I'm really keen to try a 4k blu ray but really not keen on the price of the players.
