has anyones student loan gone in yet ?

Can't the poor people live with parents, are you saying ontop of course fees being payed they should give a bigger student loan to the poor?

No. Some of the loans should be redirected to those who do not have access to parental support, that means the criteria for being independent need to be changed. At the moment it pays to have children you can't afford and you'll even get low cost higher education at the expense of others.

The point is the less well off get other grants (which they don't have to repay) whilst the top earners don't get any of this and only have the option of a student loan.

I got none. I don't get parental support. I was made redundant earlier this year so for now the student loan is my only means of getting by. Do you see where I'm coming from now?

I got no grants, i didn't take the option of a student loan, my parents just forked out the cost for everything, now is it correct that the better off who not only have contributed more to the countrys growth, via jobs and taxes should be forced to fork out yet more money?

Didn't say you should. The income cap for the means-tested part is something like £50,000, and even then you can still borrow a few grand for living costs + the usual fees loan. But as I said in the last post I'd scrap this entirely, perhaps switching to a system based on academic merit.

Mine doesnt even bother wanting to know anything about the forms. Money still ends up in my account somehow but yeah :eek::p

Same for me. I never got anything scanned last year, and don't have to do anything this year. I think the uni will automatically validate it if you register and return to uni.

Hey guess what?? There are many people who got the full loan (which they have to pay back) and their parents had to fork out a lot of money (probably hurt them a lot more than it did yours)

The assumption that those earning more money than others can afford to put down more cash to goto uni is flawed.

As is the assumption that what money the parents earn has any real impact on what the kids get, for plenty of people their parents only provide the basic or emergency funding ... nothing more (if anything).

Yep, the parents have no legal obligation to give the kids any money for further education, so what do these kids do then????

Get the student loan or go and sleep on concrete. Pretty obvious I'd have thought? The idea is that I won't need to claim welfare if I can actually earn a decent living at the end of it... better than being stuck on conventional benefits.

Nice practical suggestion then.

So given that the system is designed to enable both the rich and poor goto uni, i think its fair to say that the son of a rich family who aint willing to pay for him has less of a chance making it to uni than the poor kid, how can this possibly be correct?

Nice to see so called fairness in the system, what a load of claptrap its called hmm the better off can pay for everyone as per usual.

You have to pay rent to your parents now? You could just borrow the tuition fee loan if paying for the course is an issue. I'd say another £2700 loan + means tested portion is not exactly a small sum for living costs at the parental home.

had barcode scanned at 2pm yesturday, waiting for it to arrive, need it asap to make a £500 payment, any ideas when I should expect it ? She said same day, which was yesturday. The bank its going into is Lloyds TSB. Thanks :)
