Has the PS3 flopped?

Floppier than a damp sock.

Red Dwarf reference, and in no way my own thoughts of the PS3 ;)

Ah yes, that old 'flash in the pan', 'gimicky' console the Wii. :p

Nintendo are making an absolute killing.

They always have, people always wrote them off after the Gamecube. But they forget that in the Gameboy and now the DS, Nintendo has always had very strong sales.

Looks like Nintendo are selling Euorpeans down the river if they are easily supplying that many to the jap market every week (most high street stores still having supply problems here)

Not saying its a bad console - anything but - but N should be making a bigger effort for the UK and rest of europe

Has the PS3 flopped?

As a games console it's definately lacking some quality titles, which is hindering sales (along with it's high price tag)

As a Blu-Ray player it's put 3 mill in peoples homes, and the current line up of films out/coming looks very good (especially in the US)

It suits me as a console more than the 360 did due to the fact that it is a blu-ray player and it has a web browser + the fact that it's free online (as I don't play many games online so £35 a year was too much for the occassional game online.

Nintendo are definitely doing well...

As for Wii shortage, there's still some around if you go to the right shops, think places with large buying power and lots of toys and you're pretty much going to get one :) A lot of the chains that only deal in computer/console games seem to be struggling to get supplies though...

And the Wii uses the most power of all if you unplug your other consoles and leave your Wii on Wii connect, so what is your point?
It is only 11 watt and Wii's 24 hr connect isn't much of a use so turn it off and it is the lowest of all.

if thats the case then then you do have a better choice with the 360, you can either choose not to have the extra's or have them and still pay the same price as the ps3 anyway

Choice is always nice.

I don't rate the ps3's Blu-Ray playback enough to justify the extra cost. With the 360 there's the choice to save up for a decent standalone HDVD/BR player if that's what you want.

This has made the decision very trick for me - I very much want a PS3, but would prefer a HDDVD player than BR. Sony has forced me to choose between their console and the HD movies I want. Suddenly the cheaper 360 and Wii look a lot more attractive.

I love the choice of using a £18 wireless ethernet bridge rather than being a mug (or just using it in PS3 vs 360 arguements ;) ) and buying the official wireless adapter and I could use my rechargeable batteries that I already had.

Choice FTFW.

Ah so the 20gb PS3 model is dropped and now its a tiny HDD :p

However you swing it, a HDD is a necessity. I use it everyday and have never resented paying extra for the premium pack. Apples and oranges when compared to something like the PS3's Blu-Ray player - something that isn't needed and isn't wanted by many people.

When the movies available for a certain format put you off buying a games console you know someone's made a ballsup.

You are so sucked in by Sony
The 360 only needs a 20Gb HDD because you don't have to install the entire game to it just to help it load games in a reasonable time... ;)

Seriously whenever people mention the HDD size it's a bit of a joke isn't it.. the new 360 Elite is 120Gb, Sony are upping theirs to 80Gb, it's all a waste of time, you can plug any USB drive into either and make the storage space what you want.. and even then, anyone with a modicum of 'media' is going to be well in excess of that.. Anyone who really seriously needs a media streamer isn't going to touch the PS3 at all, it's for people that just don't know any better..

Just keep telling yourself the PS3 is really a top quality media machine with a huge 60Gb HDD.. ;)
