Haswell Overclock Thread

frobinrobin: i can get 4.3ghz at 1.2v, OCCT hits 82c but my rendering program hits 64c...which means my phantek fans are only revved up to about 50% speed.

I seriously need to sort out some better cooling as I my Fenrir isn't doing very well at the mo, due to lack of air in the case and poor orientation. Currently getting 69c on hottest core in Prime 95 with Turbo putting the the cores at 3.6 and 1.188v.

I don't fancy trying even a 4Ghz OC at present (mind you I think the ambient temp is high in here, I'm melting :D).

smilertoo: What case cooling do you have? 82c is still a bit high for me (my room can get hot)

What's the maximum temp for these chips? I thought that 105c would melt most cpu's.

dcsarge: it's 3.5ghz by default and 3.9 with turbo! What case/cooling do you have? I'm planning on a Silverstone Ravon RV03 and will be the first time I have a 90degree mobo orientation... is that what you mean by orientation?

Hi Guys

Just starting off slowly with AIDA 64. Currently at 3.6 with vcore of 1.080 which seems really low and temps are 48-49 on the hottest core and averaging 42 so hopefully ive got a good chip!

Will post back with more temps and OC's.

EDIT: Dirty Overclock of 4.6ghz at 1.25 vcore got into windows and stressing with AIDA 64 currently highest temp of 68 on the hottest core!!!! I think ive got a cracking chip! Being cooled with the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro SR1. Soo tempted to get a NH-14 or a Silver Arrow with these temps!!!

frobinrobin -I thought turbo was reduced if all 4 cores were at 100%? I have a CM Storm Scout and Fenrir Evo cooler but the mounting bracket/clamp won't fit in front to rear flow orientation due to the Sniper M5 heatsinks. I have had to fit the Fenrir so it is pulling air from the back of the gpu and up towards the top case fan.

I am not convinced the Fenrir heatpipes are making good contact with cpu or I have used a bit too much Ice Diamond paste. I won't worry too much at the mo as I have a Corsair 350D, H100i and XFX 750 Silver PSU on order, then I can really play around with the settings.

Yeah, I'd never usually DSR something for this reason, I once had a 2500K that struggled 4.5GHZ, I got rid of it, but it wasn't a DSR.

But in this case? Just feels like I've wasted money, it's horrifically poor.

I think my chip is just as bad as yours, perhaps even worse :(

I can't get 4.4Ghz stable, even with 1.3v. It crashes within seconds of stress testing...

Got mine to 4.4ghz with voltage of 1.2v, ran prime 95 for an hour and top temp was 77c on hottest core.

occt with avx on gets higher temps, but ive had tests pass each one then fail in use rendering. I have a 4.3ghz that passes every test ive used at 85c or less so i'll stay with that.

Impressed with the temps soo far.....

Im using a, K2 Mount Doom cooler

Going for 2hrs now and max temp on all cores has crept up to 64c, still anything below 80c and im happy with. I might even be able to drop the volts even lower, probably 4.6Ghz would be what id look out for a 24/7 OC

To be fair this is a very dirt OC atm, the only options i changed in the bios from stock was:

'CPU Base Clock' to 101
'CPU Clock Ratio' to 45
'Internal Graphics' to Disabled
'C1E', 'C3', 'C6/C7', 'CPU Thermal Monitor' & 'CPU EIST' all to Disabled
'Extreme Memory Profile' to Profile 1
'Memory Freq' to 1600mhz
'Profile DDR Voltage' to 1.50v
'DRAM Timing Selectable' to Quick
'Channel Standard Timing Control' to 8,8,8,24
'CPU Vcore' to 1.280v
'Legacy BenchMark Enhancement' to Disabled

But a lot of stuff is left as Auto like 'PCH Core', 'PCH IO' and other stuff grey out so i cant change it like 'CPU Vcore Offset'. Is there any settings i should be looking at change from auto and input a manual setting?

Have noticed that 'Uncore Freq' is at 4Ghz should i leave this or change it to 4.5ghz to match CPU Clock Ratio?, also under this option there is 'Turbo Ratio' options for all the 4 cores which at default are on auto but have a value of 38, 38, 37, 39 should i set all this to my desired OC speed...in this case 45??
