Haswell Overclock Thread

I oc my i5 4670k 3.4ghz to 4ghz and I am thinking of going higher. I have the ram at 2400 11-13-13-30. I have the EIST and c1e and other clock power management enabled so it down clocks when in idle. The temps have maxed out at high 50s with realtemp. vcore is at 1.151.

Is it best to disable the down clocking during idle features?

On my previous MB the fsb was at 200mhz now its at 100mhz and the dram:fsb ratio is very high. Is that ideal? should I be lowering the multiplier and increasing the bus ?

Have I got a decent chip....I have managed to get 4.2 by setting the boost to 42 in bios..left all voltages to auto and set ram to 1866 @9-9-9-24 manually see below

I have tried to get higher oc manually but to be honest cant get it stable any higher..probably because I don't know what I am doing...the bios has so many settings I am lost...any opinions welcome would be nice to know the chip is a good one aand that my inexperience is what is holding it back

This pic shows volts while test was running

thanks.

Decided to overclock my i7 4770k, achieved 4.9ghz.

Setup;

- i7 4770K
- Asus Z87 PRO
- Corsair H80 (Set to performance mode)
- Silverstone FT02 (With predator fans, set to high)

This was done using Asus AI Suite III and 'Extreme' optimization setting for overclocking.

Stable during several 3D Mark, also during several long games of BF3.

Idle Temps

After 20 mins on Prime95 (Small FFT)

For some reason when i run a full Prime95 test (Small FFT) it only shows as 4.8ghz, if i run say on 2 cores it'll goto 4.9ghz. I believe this is something to do with speedstep / turboboost?

Just tried a quick blast on p95 small fft, temps shot to 90-94-91-81 in a matter of seconds. Way higher even than my old 3770k at 4.5ghz but on a much higher voltage. Might have to try a remount and paste of the chip and cooler.

Did have mine running happily along @4.6 vcore -1.264,
But tbh, after testing Bf3, Arma 3 which are the only games i'm playing at the moment, the overclock hasn't made any difference to performance at all so back to stock turbo frequencies for now.
At least untill i upgrade my GPU.

My 4770k is an absolute dog. Need 1.25 to do 4.2 cant get it stable above that no matter what I do. Good job I spent big bucks on a Maximus VI Formula! Also core 1 seems to run 10C hotter than core 4 under load, the cooler (H110) is making good contact with the 'heat spreader'. What a load of rubbish.

My ancient 920 could clock higher than that.

I'm reading a guide for the Gigabyte Z87 and the 4770k and I'm still struggling to understand the different meanings to things, I change something then worry it's the wrong thing!

I don't suppose anyone is spare with this board and CPU to help me and compare settings?

I'm on Steam (Andybtsn), it would be much appreciated

Bad luck man. Ill be delidding mine this weekend. I reckon that if i can get the temps under control it wont be too bad a chip. Just in case delidding goes wrong, ive got the debit card on standby to buy another retail chip.

Ok, decided to have a fiddle again and play with uncore. But during testing I noticed something strange, I was thinking wow this is stable. But the issue seems to be that I make changes in the Bios but then when I check CPUz the changes dont occur. But in the bios CPU info it will state I am running at 4.6 1.35 v and in cpuz i am at 4.5 1.325 ( my old settings) Any ideas ?

Ok I am an idiot was easy tune ( must have forgot I set if up some time ) ! I spoke to soon :( cant get the voltage lowered.

**Uninstalled easy tune all good :)

I've reached 4.5GHz on 1.2v. I was on 4.2GHz with '+0.1 offset' but Thu didn't really know what that meant so I did it like I did my i7 860 lol. Prime is giving me 84c on an h100i. So hows my chip?

Running quote hot as haswells are but alright volts/clocks wise. You could prolly push 4.6-4.7 with 1.3v.

I was about to say "Hot as hell" but I guess you could just replace that with "Hot as haswell" :D
