Depends on where you're coming from. For anyone on Sandy Bridge or Ivy at reasonable clocks this just isn't worth it. From first generation i7, again the upgrade is not really worth the outlay unless time is important in encoding, CAD, rendering etc but certainly not for gaming. Anything older and Haswell is still a good upgrade.

I upgraded because my 1366 board was showing pretty clear signs of being on its last legs.

This is very much an exception and by no means a rule and in part most likely due to SOE's poor optimisations.

Planetside 2
920 4ghz - 670 - Ultra config Avg FPS 55
4770k 4ghz - 670- Ultra Config Avg FPS 100
4770k 4.5ghz- 670- Ultra Config Avg FPS 135
Setting lighting and shadows down from high to low sets it a steady 200fps

I'll be going through some other games in the coming days but if this trend continues its looking like I would suggest 1st Gen users to swap.

As a side note when do we get Grid 2? I'm guessing codes will be emailed out sometime soon.

just the manual with its sticker. bugger.

he meant the big cardbard box your stuff came in.

look under the flaps on the bottom , mine had been pushed in the bottom of the box and I only noticed because it was sticking out the side of the box a bit

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade to Haswell from my i5 760 (1156) & ASUS P7P55D-E (1156)

Considering that I'm not really interested in overclocking, but I'd like them to last at least 3-5 years, and usage will be gaming only which do you think would be my best options?

I was looking at

Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150

and

Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150)

CPU looks like a good option for best power for the money, without overclocking. Motherboard looks good because of the amount of SATA 3 and USB 3, which will mean it will last a long time.
