Hats causing baldness

I used to be a chronic baseball cap wearer, but in the end my scalp would get insanely itchy (no it wasnt lice).... and now im rather thin over the top. :(

I suppose constant hat wearing could cause hair breakage close to the scalp that could give the impression of hair thinning, but i'd imagine the hair would recover if you stopped wearing the hat.

Actually since arriving in this country 16 years ago, the first thing I noticed was how bald the british men were/are:p.

Is it genetics/stress or is it the bad weather lol:p?

It seems that out of 100 men only 5-10 may have their head covered with hair.

Now I am probably going to get flamed:D

My dad always blamed his baldness on having to wear a hat all the time in the RAF. Its obviously rubbish as all his brothers are also bald but I certainly think that when you have that gene that it can speed up the process.

It must be funny to see all the 'bald heads' sitting together during family gathering:D

Do you believe the excessive wearing of hats can cause baldness? Google says no but I think it does.

Would it matter to your opinion if there could be half a dozen studies cited from reputable sources to the effect that wearing hats does not cause baldness? What counts as excessive anyway - 3 hours a day, 7 hours a day, not even taking it off to sleep?

I never wear a hat, yet somehow still the bald/receeding gene on my Mum's side still functions just fine.

It might have been passed down your dads side, as far as I'm aware it isn't specifically passed down the female side of the family. It might be so in your family but it could be the male side of the family for someone else.
