Have any big News events happened locally to you?

A guy near us murdered his parents. Absolutely brutal. Stabbed them about 150 times (near us as in around the corner and I’d often walk past the house on the way to pick up takeaways/go to the pub). He was an absolute weirdo.

Never made massive headlines but was enough to be mentioned in the National papers.

A lad raped an elderly woman in her home then burgled her home.

As he was living in a property backing onto the entrance to driveway of flats, I was questioned by police as area before was cornered off.

Then he was sentenced for 14 years. A month after sentencing- his mum was shopping at my work and overheard her say “I’m proud of all my kids”. Proud to say that a son (she has 4 other kids) is banged up for raping an elderly woman who had to go into a care home? Not a good example aren’t you??

Think the elderly lady died last year

We had "The first MP to be confirmed to have caught Covid" when it was all kicking off, even though she lives 100 miles away from her area it was a fun time having a few news vans and live reports from outside the office she had used nearly 10 years ago now.

Just had a shipment of full body PPE in too, was very tempted to get a few of us walking the street with hazard tape in the background securing other offices just to add to the panic.

Pretty obvious who the MP was.

We had a big scandal in my town, Council and police knew about a crime happening on an industrial scale, nearly 2000 known victims, but chose not to deal with it for fear of 'rocking the multicultral boat'.

That count?
Same here

A guy murdered his brother/friend/cousin/whatever at the end of my street, the guy across the road was convicted for up-skirting at the local supermarket, and someone round the corner got in the local news for doing something drugs-related. Apart from those three isolated incidents it’s actually a pretty dull area and not at all chavvy.

I was living in Bishops Stortford when these murders made the national news.

Family home (home I grew up in) is about 400 yards from where Raoul Moat shot PC David Rathband. Family friend passed the scene directly afterwards, before emergency services arrived.

Biggest local stories from current location (quiet village, Essex/Cambridge border) are an arson of a lovely old property about 100 yards away, a few years ago. Ex-partner of the occupant did it. And someone put a JCB through the front of the village store to pinch the ATM machine.

A lad in my year at school is a paedo had about 40-50 charges including underage sex with both genders etc. He's banged up for 26 years - initially 14, then another 12 for finding guilty to severe offences. No-one, apart from himself and victims knew about this. Parents both pillars of the local community had to change their names and move elsewhere

Not quite but there was a helicopter that crashed into a tall residential building around London south bank several years ago. I was on the train leaving Waterloo at the time that was right opposite as it happened. Very surreal moments.
