A bit too convenient tbh.

You cancel the card for no apparent reason then suddenly a large sum of money is demanded from it.

The fact he has an email receipt dated at least 19 days ago, that could counter act that argument.

Hope I'm not referring to a competitor... but I brought a macbook on 27th June from the 'pear' store in person at a location in the uk.

They didnt issue me a receipt per se, but said it would be emailed to me. Fine and dandy, got the email etc.

Today is the 16th July, a whole 19 days later and the money has still not been taken out of my credit card account.

Is it normal for something to take this long to come through??? Have they forgotten about it?? If so.... :D :D

Exactly the same thing happened to me... although I wasn't lucky enough to have the hindsight to buy a macbook - I only got away with a wireless keyboard, speaker/dock for my gf and an iPod case for my dad! Requested the email receipt and still no money has been taken! This was some 4-5 weeks ago.

I have been into the same store since (Birmingham) and bought something else - not only was I not offered the email receipt but the money was debited from my account immediately. Perhaps there was a problem with their system?

I'd be keen to know how I can be accused of fraud having done absolutely nothing wrong!!

Having bought something, then whilst knowing that the payment has not been made, canceling payment /card = Fraud.

There could be many reasons for canceling the card - and the debt would then be a civil matter rather than criminal, no?

personally i'd just sit tight and hope you don't get charged, if you do it's no biggie, you were expecting to have to pay anyway :p

You don't need to alert them to the fact that you haven't paid for it. It is their fault after all. Personally I wouldn't try and stop them taking payment by cancelling the card or whatever. That's knowingly trying to steal.

i would phone the card company and tell them you have lost the card and can they cancel and send you a new one please

that way you can say you thought they had taken the cash but you thought it would be best to cancel the card after you lost it just incase someone got hold of it

job done

The item would have been tracked out the store on the barcode, so there would have been a problem with cashing up at the end of the day.

Someone will know its gone, they will eventually find out where and charge for it.

Surely this whole thread is knowingly trying to steal isn't it? :)

At the risk of getting on my moral high horse, I think the OP should contact the shop himself and make sure that they take the payment. Because quite honestly it's the right thing to do.

sorry but have to disagree, it's the shop that's in the wrong, they are the ones that have forgotten to take the payment out, my advice is sit on it, don't cancel the card and don't ring them, that way you have done nothing wrong and then it's up to the 'gods' if he gets a free laptop.

Me wonders how many of the do-gooder "you must tell the shop" crowd in this thread are actually just jealous of the OP (possibly) getting a free laptop.

Me also wonders if the same do-gooders would actually practice what they preach. ;)
