Have I lost it?

Any of you suffering gaming malaise also happen to have a steam list bloated with cheap sale games by any chance?

Hahaha!!! Steam is bloody evil. I have spent a fortune on games. Must have around 260-280 games on Steam. Easily around the same in boxed games.

My problem is, nothing seems to capture my passion for gaming like any of the other games I've played before has. I think it might be partly down to not really having anyone to play with. Most of my mates play DotA2 and I really can't get into it so there must be another reason.

Anyone feel the same way? Have I lost my passion for gaming?

I feel the same way mate. Last year I spent a small fortune upgrading my PC with a 3570K, SSD, GTX670 with a full watercooling loop in place but when it actually came to playing the games I've really struggled to find the drive to go and play them.

That's not to say I haven't enjoyed anything of the games, Civ5 for example has been very enjoyable but I'm not hooked like I was 15 years ago when I first played RTS games like Caesar 3.

The problem for me is now I'm older I have other responsibilities; flat, full time work, exercise, girlfriend etc, etc that all gets takes up time and when I do get a bit of free time I don't want to have to invest it in learning how to play a new game (the games I do play tend to be older ones).

There's still a part of me though that will find the time to play games that I'm really looking forward like RTW2, Elite and the new Wing Commander game but new IP is a bit of struggle for me.

Everyone gets burnt out at some stage with gaming. You'll stumble across something new when you least expect it and your life will be gone once again :D

Elite: Dangerous is something worth looking out for early 2014. If you want a hook right now then, as others have already mentioned, try DayZ (the Epoch mod in particular where you can setup a place to call home)

Don't forget about Star Citizen... looks AWSOME!!! Release some time in 2014 as well.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/about-the-game

I've been waiting for an epic Space Sim since IW:II Edge Of Chaos Came out and Roberts has to be the man to deliver.

As for Current gaming V.S. the past the focus has been more on making a pretty game that everyone can complete easily rather than focusing on the Gameplay and story sure they do release an epic storytelling game every now and then but compare something like Dragon Age(Origins ofc) compared to BG 1&2 the style the story and the feel is there but the content and the length and the difficulty are lacking I remember spending Hours if not days stuck on certain parts of old games whereas now every things been made so damn simple games that would've taken months in the past take days(prime example being Deus Ex and the new prequel DE:HR)

There is usually one of these posts every few weeks - the answer is always the same - you are just bored with the current crop of stuff, something new will come along and tweak your fancy, most people are bored playing the same stuff over and over so until something breaks that mould i consider myself bored with games, something breaks the monotony then im a gamer again, thats how it works.

I've just started playing CSGO yesterday just because of the new Arms update, I'm actually enjoying each game just because of the drops at the end! Make a quick £2 just for playing an hour today :D

I go through the same thing.

Life gets in the way, your time is split every which way. Keep trying things (new things), throw money at Steam... you'll find games that grab you. Having a good team of friends to play with is handy.

Or, just embrace it and go outside a little bit more! Sometimes, that helps you appreciate the days you have holed up indoors playing Borderlands.

I started gaming with diablo 2/CS 1.5 and then 1.6/source/WoW. All those game were extremely addictive back then. I still play WoW but geneally can't be bothered wth anything else. I don't think the newer versions of CS are better than 1.5/1.6 either so that's probably why i don't bother. I find it hard to put up with the kids that apparantly all "lift" these days as well :p

I have bought lots of games but i can't bring myself to playing them.

I think when you first get in to gaming it's perhaps a little different, for me it was my first online experience, my friends also played online with me. Now however i have a job and a family so i have less time to play and the same goes for my friends. but i also don't feel like theres any games that are making me want to.

I play BF3 now and then because i upgraded my pc last year to play it so i feel like i have to or it was a waste of money lol.

I think since gaming really took off (when it stopped being nerdy), say around the Xbox/PS2 era, many games have lost some vital spark (for me). Multiplayer is a simple way devs can not bother trying to find the spark, as you tend to have good fun playing with other people anyway. Now we are all so used to multiplayer, jumping online and doing an auto match up with some random dude is hardly different to playing single player (but without having to code AI!)

This is why I maintain that Nintendo still on the whole make excellent games, they are just damn enjoyable! Plus with the Wii U they are increasing support for local multiplayer, which is where gaming shone for me in the 90s (and check the buzz surrounding competitive fighters, I doubt it's only technical reasons for playing locally).

I use my PC for more mainstream games.

Games used to have a community around them, gaming died when RTCW/ET became the next best thing.

Games are made for the casual now, nothing to get stuck into i dislike the penchant for everything about leveling especially in FPS i want long drawn out matches with a level playing field, but yes OP i feel the same and i have been gaming since the vic20, the thing that will change the playing field is the Occulus Rift its the only thing i can think that will add something to PC gaming.

lost passion for gaming is because it's very quiet right now, plus the quality of shooters nowadays is very poor

you used to get really good tactical shooters, and good horror shooters, but now it's all shifting to online gaming only ....big mistake !!!!!!

because this has dumbed down and reduced the atmosphere of the game.....because in real life you dont get skill points/ bonus points/ downloadable content, all over the screen right there in front of your face

the best shooters were always simple and linear, but realistic and tricky to play, one shot and you die, we've lost all of this, great shame !

Move on, do something else. Is it really that important?

yes it is...esp late at night when tv is so bad.

the clue is to keep your older games, never delete them, plus play a modern game in a different style.

visit a fav BL2 bandit location and use certain weapons only/ restrict your guns and gameplay.... BL2 is a very good game for favourite areas to visit.

Just had my first few hours on Guild Wars 2.

I still feel like all MMOs since WoW have been so lacking in one simple aspect: movement. Every MMO I have played after WoW the movement of your character just doesn't feel as fluid as it does in WoW, take a lot away from it IMO. Especially in combat.

Going to keep playing it this weekend. On the other hand, saw some nice screenshots from Wildstar at MMO! *hopes*

Love WoW, always will, 'wasted' years of my life playing. However I feel like its a job or a chore to keep up with the majority of the player base, probably my fault i can do anything casual.

Whatever hobbie is flavour of the month I get addicted and take it to the extreme ;:@
