I'll get whichever consoles have the games I want. I won't boycott a console unless maybe it was made from dead babies or something. Companies screw over other companies all the time, that's the way business works.
I've tended to avoid the consoles i regarded as a waste of money at the time, this has meant so far i have avoided:
The megadrive (Snes was better, got given a megadrive sometime later) the megadrive was released 2 YEARS before the snes
The Saturn. dont blame you
The Dreamcast. see above
The N64. crazy it had some fantastic games. i still have my import ntsc n64
The hugely overpriced Xbox until its first major price cut. so did i. then i bought one and modded it that very same day.
I have however bought on release day:
Playstation 1, 2 and 3 X 2, and a PSP. which makes me laugh as the the ps3 was the biggest waste of money in the history of console gaming. the psp wasnt exactly brimming with decent games and still isnt
Wii and Gamecube
Xbox 360 which ive got to be honest, i dont think I've been on more than 4 hours since christmas. yet you ignored some of the greatest console gaming around?
If anything MS should drop out as the PS3 does everything the 360 does.
The N64.
regarding Snes.
I don't buy Sony kit - because I've yet to have a single piece of it that lasted to the end of its warranty.
So many failures - My Technics/Marantz/Panasonic stuff works perfectly - and has done for many years.
One company i should learn i don't like their consoles much as i am not a huge fan of the games on the systems is Nintendo. But i will never learn![]()
The online interface is carp compared to Live though.
a lot of what made me decide to get a 360 was online play.
Also it now fills a niche after the price drops, before people either had to pay ~£300 for a 'next-gen' console or get a Wii, now the arcade is cheaper than one of those!
This thread kills me.
Do some of you people really believe that Sony, MS et al should be out there saying "bugger making any money, lets go help a few little old ladies across the road".
I'd be astounded if you could find any large firm that's completely free of somewhat questionable practices. The reasons simple, they employ people, some of whom when given the chance will scheme, sneak and generally try to break and bend the rules in whatever way they can.
Surely the right thing to do is judge the product for what it is, i.e. does it do what I want, how much does it cost and will it reliably continue to do so?
In the case of say the PS3, well it certainly seems to tick a lot of the boxes, e.g.
- One of the next gen consoles. I've no idea if it's better or worse than a 360, but it's probably not massively different
- it's the best BD player available at present and does a rather good job with DVDs
- it'll add PlayTV later this year, thus giving a cheap PVR
- it'll play online games and if you add a keyboard can surf the net
- it'll stream music, video and pictures from a PC (dead useful for slidshowing things like holiday snaps on the projector in the lounge)
- doesn't cost a stupid amount bearing in mind it's capabilities
The 360 is my favourite console but it's also the one that would be the least missed if it left the market.
