well you realise you could just say you lied?

and it could never be used as evidence or as a reason to waste the thousands of pounds nessecery to start monitoring you ;)

single mother of two?

wonder if she had a job to pay $220,000 fine? thats a ridiculous fine

maybe she was a millioinaire?

in any case, thats American legal system

they also tried to sue a Russian site for several trillion dollars.

also some rather worrying things that came from the case

In proving liability, the industry did not have to demonstrate that the defendant's computer had a file-sharing program installed at the time that they inspected her hard drive. And the RIAA did not have to show that the defendant was at the keyboard when RIAA investigators accessed Thomas' share folder.

so you could break into someones house dl a bunch of torrents you know are watched and tracked then completely screw over that person.

i would have thought that you can make legal 'backups' of what you buy because what happens if you origional snaps in the drive???

you can make backups legally problem is everything has some protection on it if you need to bypass this to back it up while the back up is legal you broke a law to make it.

Although i think this is being contested somewhere.

I honestly don't understand what is so good about having a unlicensed copy of Windows to the point where some people are practically saying, "I am just so cool because I am using an unlicnsed copy of Windows. :(

I don't think that it's just they stopped letting me reinstall my old xp (legal) disk, so when i got my new pc i couldn't really afford a couple of hundred quid for windows so got it illegally.

Although I'm now just waiting to see how the new update for the 64x is working for games etc. then i will be buying it.

Isn't just talking about piracy not tolerated on ocuk?

Okay well lets just say, on some scene sites I know, there's a key you can use for your windows xp pro that passes through genuine advantage always and offers no problems at all with updates/software.

Vista is altogether a different story, there's a version out there that doesn't eed activation, not even input a cd key, it passes all WGA checks, doesn't whine about hardware changes, well just behaves like a legal Vista only better as no activation at all needed.

Or so I've heard ;).

bios crack Microsoft confirmed that the crack worked before release, however this is fixed in sp1.

apparently not, but i found out one thing that isnt tolerated on OCUK, speaking bad agaist 'pete doherty' i started a thread about it (to retaliate agaist the thread supporting him) it got 'closed' within the first few SECONDS of starting :( can you beleive that

no that's the rule against spam.

If you like something enough to use/watch or listen to it then pay for it. If it's not good enough to pay for then just don't use it. It's pretty simple and relies to a large degree on trust, just because you can and you're unlikely to get caught doesn't mean you should.

people are inclined to get things for free, and take the easy route.

we are descended from omnivorous scavengers :D

Also most people in here don't claim it to be cool, in fact quite a few have said it's anything but. however it is easier and cheaper in many cases.

When I was a kid we actually had respect for elders - didn't see them as targets to mug or shout abuse at.

.

rose tinted glasses mate. violent crime is on the decline and there always has and always will be violent chavs etc just under different names that don't give a **** about what their told to do.
