Have you ever pirated anything?

Surprised at just how many people here seem to think being dishonest is a good or cool thing

If you like something enough to use/watch or listen to it then pay for it. If it's not good enough to pay for then just don't use it. It's pretty simple and relies to a large degree on trust, just because you can and you're unlikely to get caught doesn't mean you should. Let's face it, if you're not prepared to pay 79p for a track you like it has less to do with the expense and more to do with you wanting something for nothing.

Ultimately you know the law, it's entirely down to you if you choose to be dishonest. Glad I don't have to trust some of the people round heres honesty though based on some of the posts.

Lots of music, most software, a few games, the odd movie. I don't feel guilty in the slightest - never have. Couldn't care less tbh, they still manage to make millions and millions of pounds in profit.

Disclaimer: I am lying to sound cool

people are inclined to get things for free, and take the easy route.

we are descended from omnivorous scavengers :D

Also most people in here don't claim it to be cool, in fact quite a few have said it's anything but. however it is easier and cheaper in many cases.

its not a cool thing to pirate or not to pirate :) its a way of life, which ever path you choose whether it be full on pirate, full on anti-pirate, or a mix of both, the only reason people are 'bragging' about there choise in life is because this thread was started, if people wanted to 'brag' they would start there own thread about their 'position' in life

no your allowed to record the radio.

Yes, but it's same as TV, you're only supposed to record it so you can listen to it later if you couldn't hear the original broadcast. You're supposed to delete the recording once you've listened/watched it.

What the ..... ?

People aren't being pirates to sound cool, they are trying to save money. Has nothing to do with cool/uncool. If 70 % does it then you don't really stand out if you do it, so how can it be cool ?

i heard on telly a while ago that they expect you now to have a 'licience' to listen to radios at work... or at least 'the company' needs a licence, the law even stretchs to small home business, if you run your own business at home, you listen to the radio your expected to have a licence for taht. how crazy dose that sound then :)

It is unfortunate that the current generation of people do indeed think that piracy and theft is cool.
The main reason isn't because they don't like the prices of software, games & movies.
It isn't because they are taking some kind of "stand" against the companies who release things.
The reason is purely because they are 99% "not going to get caught".
Ask people if they would steal from a shop, pickpocket or any other related theft crime and I expect the amount of people who have done it, do it on a regular basis or have even thought about doing it is going to be rather low.

People sit there in their bedrooms and they know as they download yet another piece of software or movie that there is a very good chance that once again they will get away with their crime.

Don't get me wrong, as a kid loads of people used to swap games for their computers, borrow albums on tape etc.
However the amount of piracy going on was tiny compared to the amount going on now.

Of course the other issue is basically morals - again look at society in general.
When I was a youngster ANY parent was in charge.
So if you were playing with your mates in the street and any of the parents had a go at you - you listened.
These days not even their own kids will listen.
When I was a kid we actually had respect for elders - didn't see them as targets to mug or shout abuse at.
Today's generation just seem to lack morals, so the theft of a few games/movies won't bother them, especially when they think they won't get caught.

All of my computer software at home is legitimate, right down to the three licenses of WinZip and WinRAR that I bought.
All of my music was either bought on CD or downloaded from iTunes.
My parents taught me that theft was wrong - a lesson obviously not bothered with these days.

people are just mad because they are feeling ripped off in a way, since they pay loads of money out buying this stuff when they know that others are getting the same stuff for free :D

Ahh the good old feeling ripped off, well I feel ripped off having to pay as much to drive a 1.6 mondy as an American pays for driving some massive Caddilac with a 5 litre V8. ( Hypothetical example ).

I also want a 5 litre V8 and pay 3 times less for petrol, road tax, and insurance.

suddenly the pirates are innocent, sitting quietly in their homes downlaoding stuff whilst at the same time you got thugs/chav's (whatever you want to call them) roaming the streets looking for weak targets to mug and stab.

so who has chosen the correct lifesytle the pirate or the chav????
