have you ever put your keyboard in a dish washer ?

I know people who've put car parts in the dishwasher.

I also know people whose wives were not impressed with their use of the dishwasher...

I used my wife's ensuite bath to clean a large intercooler as it was too big for the dishwasher

I have one of those Logitech ones that was designed to be watertight and washable and I still wouldn't put in the dishwasher. Rinse in the sink and thoroughly dry? Sure, but not the dishwasher.

They won't short out and fry. There isn't enough power going through a keyboard.

I bet they would work underwater. Who is up for trying?

It can short out and mess up the RGB LEDs though. It happened to 5 of my keys spilling water on an old Steelseries keyboard.

put 2 in on a 30 min quick wash and they are like brand new.
will let them dry out for a few days before plugging them in.

so what things have you banged in the dishwasher other than dishes etc etc lol.

Yes. But give it a very long time to dry out. Best to put it in an airing cupboard ( if you have one ) and leave it for as long as you possibly can.

I can see it working if you put it in the airing cupboard for a few days, if you have one... I've rinsed my keyboard off under a tap and then put it in the airing cupboard before after spilling drink on it.

It worked about 4 times, before it didn't. Then I had to take it apart and clean the PCB with IPA.

Keyboard still works though... I should get some less top heavy cups... Or stop being such a clutz. :p

I've been looking at my kb for a few months now and thinking it really needs a clean. I'm fairly close to convincing myself that the space bar is not working consistently any more though, in which case it's time for a replacement :D

Two birds with one stone, take your keyboard in the shower and use it as a nice back loofah. The higher the key caps, the better the clean.

My keyboard is an early USB one from the beige era where some of the yellowing was covered with an ink spill and was generally looking nasty. Took the PCB out and put the plastic through the dishwasher, it came out lovely.

Note some cheap keyboards have a carbon layer printed onto a board rather than a copper PCB. The carbon will apparently wash right off, according to someone I know who was trying to undo a beer spill into his keyboard :)

I knew someone at uni who tried to put his alloys through the dishwasher, funnily enough the dishwasher stopped working...
