Servers are named after David Eddings characters. PC's are named after anime characters. So at the moment I am streaming video off of belgarath on yumi-chan.
In conversation systems are referred to by their role (and location if there is more than one machine doing the role, e.g. upstairs htpc) instead of by their hostname for clarity.
I recently named mine Mission control, only because when my cousin takes the mickeys out of me for being geeky and upgrading it etc I can reply with 'Nasa would be ****ed without me'
I vaguely consider mine to be called Omega, mainly because it's using the Akasa case of the same name. In more practical terms there are jon-svr, jon-nas, jon-n110 and jon-dell. Previously jon-eee and jon-nc10. Definitely a pattern there.
