REAL WORLD PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

Taken from a sharkey xtreme review Jan 2007

WinRAR is another benchmark test that helps show off the real-world improvements when using a quad core processor. The Core 2 models hold a decided advantage here and the Core 2 quad core processors are the overall leaders. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 certainly holds it own, and even though it obviously can't match the performance of its 2.66 GHz counterpart, the Q6600 is still noticeably faster than the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800.

Try this simple winrar bench test it takes about 50 secs maybe less to complete

lets see your results

download here

Click on Tools then select benchmark and hardware test

These benches are done with Ocz PLatinum Rev2 Pc2 6400 @ 800mhz E6400 at 3.2Ghz

Upgraded my memory recently to Crucial Ballistics PC8000 running at 1000Mhz and got my score upto 1556 with a clean install.

OPteron 165 is dual core after all ;) the Winrar benchmark is very memory bandwidth and latency dependant slack timming and low memory bandwidth mean low score AFAIK

Mine just keps on going for some reason.

Resulting KB/s should stop and be Bolded/highlighted, make sure nothing cpu intensive is running while the benchmark is running, I'm sure you knew that anyway :)

Your result doesn't seem to add up at all if your CPU is @ 3.2ghz

I get 1,511 with 3.7ghz

Townlea what are your memory timmings in cpuz? did you leave them on auto in the bios or add them manually?

It never stops

she started it and 5 mins later I asked if it had finished, she said no.

So I said, pause it and give me a score.

Weird.. >_<

The Winrar benchmark doesn't give any indication that its finished other than high-lighting a maximum MB/s throughput figure, she may have been looking for a finished indicator which Winrar doensn't display ;)

Yer, good score, nearly as good as mine ;)

RobH thanks for the results table, very nice :)

JeffyB the Crucial Tenth Anniversary 3-3-3-10 is kickin' some serious ass for you !

Just an update. I swapped to a Q6600 an 2GB of cheap Crucial Ballistix PC5300 (667Mhz 3,3,3,8) ram. I have upped the Q6600 to 3Ghz and have the ram running at PC8000 (1000Mhz) with 4-4-4-12 timings, 2.3V Same ram that is on special this week. 24 passes memtest stable last night and I have just remoted in to the machine and run the benchmark using Winrar 3.70 b6. Even with the remote session open I am getting 2,253 on the benchmark. Might be higher when running it without the remote load added.

Happy bunny :).

Err, esctatic bunny me would be ;)

I have just upgraded my Ocz platinum Rev 2 pc2 6400 to wait for it.....

Crucial Ballistix Pc2 8000 with alloy(silver) rims :)

Ocz was @ 800 4-4-4-12

Ballisitix @ 1000 4-3-3-6

so post #1 has been soundly trashed :)
