Having a problem with new SSD's

Hi folks,

I'm having a strange performance issue with my 2 new SSDs and wondered if anyone had and ideas please? Here's the story:

This week I picked up a Samsung Pro 850 256GB and a Pro 840 512 Gb SSD. I opted for a clean install of Win 7 with the OS on the 850 drive, with the plan to use the 512 for gaming/storage. I've got a Z77 m/board, Asus P8Z77-V Pro. Both drives are connected to the Intel Sata 6Gbs ports on the board (grey coloured).

I used Samsung Magician to optimise the OS and drives and both are benchmarking for reading and writing at over 500 Mb/s and shown as healthy.

The issue is when I install a game on the storage drive (840 Pro 512Gb) the performance is shockingly bad. With Dragon Age Inquisition the opening title animation stutters and the loading times are dreadful. When I install to the OS drive the performance is great.

I thought perhaps the 840 was knackered so I did another fresh OS install and swapped the drives around (OS on the 840 Pro and gaming drive switched to the 256gb 850 pro). And bizarrely the same thing happened - games installed on the OS drive ran fine but on the non-OS drive the performance was dreadful.

Not sure what's going on here as Samsung Magician benchmarks both drives fine. Only thing I can think of is some issue with the SATA 3 (6gbs) sockets on the m/board maybe?

Cheers

anything plugged into the pcie x1 slot?

*4: The PCIe x1_2 shares bandwidth with SATA6G_E12. SATA6G_E12 is enabled by default for system resource optimization.

I guess thats the next step. I held off updating the BIOS as I don't like to mess unless there's a real big issue and I couldn't see anything in the release notes about storage controllers and SSD support.

Cables I'm sure are ok - I swapped them around when I changed the drives over so I've run each drive with each cable.

I was kinda hoping to would just work too, I'm perplexed - 4 windows installs in and a lot of downloading from Steam/Origin I've almost had enough! lol

I would try latest bios and see if that help, they do contain sata oproms

just download/extract bios to usb stick and flash through ezflash and you'll be fine

ok cool, thanks, downloading the latest BIOS update as we speak. Do I need to do another clean install of Windows after updating the BIOS or should everything be ok as-is? Cheers

i think the bios update may have sorted things out, fingers crossed! Just tried DA:Inquisitions again and it seems smooth now, I'll try some other stuff out in the morning but thanks again for your help!
