I didn't really like the demo that much at first, but it's odd, it kind of grows on you I guess. After playing the Rio mission, primarily in 'assisted' mode, I had quite a good time of it. I'll probably hold off on getting it unless they introduce a 'from behind' view like in assisted mode but for the non-assisted mode, to be honest. It'd be nice if you could have a rear-view window style thing, for that view, too.

Just downloading now @9.6MB/s :D
Being on a uni ISP has its advantages.

Total dwnld time = 2mins 24s

that is insane - its going to take me an hour to download it

:D:cool:

though it sucks when you go home, everything goes in slow motion!

but back on topic, the game is very pretty, seems well coded. the third person view is terrible, who came up with that???

didn't make me want to buy the game though, i know its a demo but it felt very limited after 15mins.

Finaly managed to download it, as Lightnix has said it grows on you. this is the first flight pc game i have ever played tho, to mee it seams to be washed out. colours are to whitey/gray. im playing it on max settings on highest res my 19" monitor will let me play, and i def think it doesnt spew eye candy. still enjoy playing it tho

Also if there is a First persion view it would be a damn site better imo,(there may be one i just havent found it)

There is a first person view, e.g. from the cockpit (2 of them in fact), I select them by clicking on either the right or left hand analogue stick (can't remember which, the other one does the flares).

Well im enjoying the demo. still considering going and getting it like, im not a real die hard gamer just play now and then kill a bit of time but im enjoying it so far, i can see the points you are all making tho, the land is pretty shocking. but then again its a flying game

Just played the demo and im impressed with the graphics and the combat...not very realistic i would imagine but ok in an arcade kind of way...runs on windows 7,Q6600 and 4870x2 with graphics settings maxed out in DX10.

how did u get Dx10 to work?? wouldn't for me

I think if you go into options when playing it there's an option for first person in assisted mode. I don't think you can do it in assistance off mode though

If you go to the game settings and change 'Control type' to Expert then that gives you full control over the plane while in 1st person as if you're in assistance off mode I think.

nope, just a training plane, an f15 (iirc) and a harrier

I think it's an F-16A that you get, you can also get a SU-35 Super Flanker in the demo too.

Ive seen video's on Youtube and looks like a arcade game. Wasnt expecting FSX but seeing a F-22 going at full wack to the ground then spin into a virtial climb at 25G seems silly.

Review in (of all places) The Daily Mail today seems to indicate this is a re-working of Strike Commander in that you are working as a mercenary, etc??

I have a few gripes about this - as much as I really, really want to enjoy this game it seems to be doing everything it can to make me feel miserable:

- Game crashes on startup if my X52 is plugged in. Out of all the peripherals in the world to crash the game... ;)
- Impossible to move the camera. WHY CAN'T THE PILOT LOOK TO HIS LEFT AND RIGHT?
- Try rolling the plane slightly to the left, and then explain to me why our altitude doesn't change at all. This isn't a realism gripe of mine, Ace Combat is my favourite flying game ever and if I slightly roll the plane in that game our altitude slowly... drops! Who coded this and have they got Namco's phone number so they can call in someone to fix it?
- Why is 'assistance off' mode the one where our camera is outside the cockpit? Why does the game consider letting me see a situation through the eyes of the pilot 'assistance'? Someone got the modes the wrong way around.

These are all problems that the PS3 version I briefly tried didn't have. I hate that we're getting the short end of the deal. Again.

Best thing about this game is the licences. It has EVERY 4th & 5th generation jet fighter yet none of them act as they should. I know its an arcade game but an F16 doing a 180 flip pre-stall is just silly. Wasnt expecting FSX but its like playing a car game with Enzo's going 0-60 in 1 seconds.

Well I know, I meant flying/aircraft games in general :p

Edit: I actually like it. It is an action game but its decent at that, it's not trying to be a sim. Might buy it. The graphics are really nice too.
