Hi,

Im in the process of doing my theory test..

The theory is not a problem, its the hazard perception test which is a nightmare for me...

What am I doing wrong??

I keep getting stupidly low scores like 5 or 10, I have had 22 driving lessons so am really close to going for a test now its just this perception test which is setting me back, any ideas of how I could improve my scores?

please help

thanks in advance..

cheers

Click a couple of times as soon as you think you spot a hazard, there is only 1 true hazard on the video but as long as you don't click excessively you can click at a few of the things that aren't hazards without getting marked down.

The BSM test cd served me well when I took mine but that was ages ago and they never had the hazard perception test in there. It might be worth looking in to as I would assume that they updated with the tests. As a lot of the question on the cd was the same in the test.

From what I heard timing is every thing in the test, as if you click too early your being too precautous/over reacting and thats dangerous too when your driver.

Me; I go for the maneuver, mirror; to see if the driver is shouting at me, then signal which means two fingers up at them.... :D ,

Every time you think there could be a hazard click 3 times with about a half second gap between.

I found the problem is sometimes pre juding a hazard, which will get you 0 as apose to clicking too late which will get you 4,3,2 or 1.

which bit?? as I cant really see specific reference to any information which may benefit me?

ive tried clicking before i see the hazard and as im approaching it, even on the hazard....

whats the story with this stupid test? its stopping me from progressing any further...grrrrrr ****

any other ideas??

Press all over the damn screen worked for me at anything you think might possibly be a potential hazard.

At first I was being too cautious, as I was worried about pressing it too much in case it marked me down for guessing, but in the end, I pressed nearly everything, and screamed through it.

Handy Vid clip

Some helpful info here.

Theres a few more more online ones that I used before my test. See if I can find them.

if i felt i hadnt pressed it in a while (not seen a hazard) i just pressed the creen randomly

seemed to of worked

just press it every so often

ok so ive spent an hour this evening practicing...out of three full tests my results are as follows:

a) test 1 - 15 marks
b) test 2 - 17 marks
c) test 3 - 20 marks

i know im doing something small wrong but dont know what...

so i ran the practice tests, weird thing is when it was supposed to tell me theres a hazard the red bar is supposed to flash along the bottom on my 2003 - 2004 dsa cd but it never did....so im thinking its weird...on the second clip it did but again not on the third, despite the explanation which comes up afterwards explaining where the hazard was....so now im thinking, is my cd borked? is that even possible???

I really need to get this sorted, can anyone please help me understand this..

im so desperate ...plsssssss???????/

Ok, I'm feeling generous ;)

What I tell my pupils is to click the mouse at anything that you think might make you change speed or direction (slow down or steer left/right etc). Then if it develops and the car starts to slow down click again and finally click just before the car stops.

So for instance you see a bus at a bus stop and its indicator goes on = Click.

The bus starts to move and your cars starts to slow = click.

The bus moves into the road and your car is just about to stop = click.

Ok so pretend your driving the car and if you see something your instructor would have you check your rearview mirror for then Click.

Dont click if the cars slowing down for normal stuff like turning left/right or traffic lights etc.

Another time to click is if you see the head of a pedestrian moving between to cars towards the road etc.

See how you go, let us know if this helps. Hope its clear enough as its not always easy to convey through forums.

^^What he said. Thats what i did and i was fine.^^

i manage to pass by doing the following... (not the best method i dont think)

click when you see something in the distance (i.e a bike on the path)
click again as you approach it
Click again just before you need to adjust your driving (i.e slow down or swerve)

oh and make sure you click the right place... mine had a red triangle that needed to be clicked, it took me ages of getting zero to realise :p

precisely what I thought...I've never seen a triangle appear inside which I must click...

the funniest thing was when with the test clips, there was a bar as i previously mentioned which had to turn red to indicate when I was supposed to click on the screen, sometimes it appeared and sometimes it did not...hence me asking w.t.f was happening there....

I am using the DSA 2003 - 2004 hazard perception cd.

APPEAL: Any instructors in particular wish to visit me in north west london to show me where I am going wrong??? grrrr

Thanks in advance..

thanks dashik...some good advice there, sounds great in theory...will let you know how i get on with your suggestions....man i really need to sort this out a.s.a.p

thanks in advance..

I had mine today, but found it pretty confusing before the test. Basically just click everytime you see a car pulling out from a side road or drive, or abus stopping or anything like that. Everyone I know who has passed told me to just keep clicking (not excessively) when a hazard appears.

What I'm trying to get at is all the tests that you do or buy before the real one are different to the real one. The real one is a lot easier. Just click everytime you see a potential hazard and click again on one of those hazards which develops into something dangerous. You can click anywhere on the screen and you can't see the mouse cursor.

surely thats madness because:

a) you are trying to learn something which is not real
b) you are training your mind when and where to click when again its pointless training your mind

everytime someone says click on a developing hazard, and on the hazard its confusing as prior to last night i took that literally so was clicking for roundabouts, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings etc...however after thinking i knew the correct way, i still got crap results....now you are saying its different to the real test as the real test is easier, i just dont know how to prepare myself for this, did you practice before hand? what results were yu getting? did u pass in practice? or fail more times?

thanks in advance...
