HD cinemas?

For me a lot of this has come about becuse of the incredibly sharp and clean presentations used for certain films on blu-ray stuff like the pixar films and transformers. This is leading to people expecting all films to look this way and assuming that anything with a muddy grainy look is low res when in actual fact a lot of the time it is what the director intended. I for one prefer this artistic license and don't want to watch a super sharp ultra clean version of a film Like Saving Private Ryan any time soon.

I wondered about this the other day too, well about cinema resolution displays.

I'm sure I also read an article how James Cameron is pushing cinema technology so it avoids to juttering, ghosting and lining that can be seen when showing 3d.

Maybe next he can push film directors to make a decent 3D film.

I'd settle for more decent films full stop, can't say I'm unhappy with the quality on offer at our local cineworld in terms of picture and sound it's just a shame the content doesn't always live up to it! S

till not sure of the real value of 3D, for me it works realy well in pixar type animated stuff when done well but I've yet to see a live action flick that was really improved by it and the things shooting out of the screen trick is getting very old all ready.

If you think your cinema is poor, you should try the cineworld in stevenage. Absolutly shocking there. I think i've seen about 5 films over a year and a half of going without problems in either the visual or audio department, the rest have something wrong with them. Granted, I spot think much more then most people due to my job but still, its a cinema, the quality should be top notch!

Yeah, Cineworld MK is pretty poor these days too. Sound issues, picture being a bit off. Kinda sad really, couple this with rising prices and ease of obtaining less legitimate copies to watch and you soon realise why less people are bothering.

Not sure; I don't go there very much anymore except for big/'gotta be the cinema' releases and can't be bothered making some guy on low wages have a ****ty day for the sake of a few quid.

Shame though, you should really have to deal with flaky audio, blurry picture and the likes in the cinema, you'd think it'd be a priority to make sure this DOESN'T happen, given that's basically thier trade.

Really, MK used to be epic. Bedford on the other hand is

Most films are being projected at 2K resolution which is often 2K Super35 which is 2048x1556.

While some cinemas may be equipped with 4K projectors, there are very few films that are actually 4K. This is mostly due to the extra cost that 4K brings... you have to factor in that it doubles storage space, increases transfer times, render times etc it's largely pointless.

More often than not, if something is 4K it's just a 2K render that has been shot back out at 4K (essentially upresing).

I work in DI and have been on some pretty big films, not once have we had a film that was 4K natively.

I never claimed to be an expert, hence why I asked...

I just though that maybe cinemas would have some sort of technology available to them which would enable them to get near to replication that same quality on a larger scale, which is what I was trying to ask.

Where do you go? The screens at meadowhall (vue) are better than the ones at centretainment (cineworld).

seats are comfier, screens are smaller, I think the sound works better in the smaller rooms :dunno:

only downside is it's often full of annoying groups of 12 year olds who are high on sugar after going to Millies:p

I guess it's what you prefer, seeing one of the new James Bond films digitally projected at Cineworld was fantastic.

I have to admit I've not been to Meadowhall to the cinema in a while but I can say the Odeon in town is a big pile of ****e, small screens (I go to the cinema for the big screens) and surround speakers that don't appear to work.

Try the Broadway Cinema in Letchworth instead. It's my preferred local. Only 4 screens, but so much nicer.

Once went to the Cineworld in Stevenage and they missed an entire reel out of a film... How hard it is to count to six?
