HD docking stations

How do these docking stations work:

Do they allow you to hot swap HDs?

yes,just take it out and put another one in.

might also worth looking at some external hard drive caddy's that have hot swap on them.

You do need to safely remove the drive from within Windows and turn off the power to the dock before swapping disks.

Ahh ok this was what I was talking about. You can't just yank the drive out like a USB stick or something?

I have the Icy Box 110STU2, ther USB2 and e-SATA version of http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-058-BT
and it works very well.

You're not supposed to yank a USB stick out either.

It needs to be safely removed from within Windows before removing it.

Even in windows 7? I thought it was an old XP thing?

Even in Windows 7 if you haven't set the drive for quick removal.

You can either set it to quick removal (slower as it disables write caching) or better performance (faster as write caching is enabled).
